Polling shows support is high for Trump's tariff tomfoolery but he's primarily a story teller. His story is that he's going to bring back a mid 20th century economy in which 80,000 men clock in at behemoth car plants in Detroit every day.
Two interesting stats; America is already the second biggest vehicle manufacturer after China and the sector has a growing labour shortage.

They're still hearing stuff like this.
U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will tell the Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday that nearly 50 countries have approached him to discuss new sweeping tariffs imposed by Trump.
"Several of these countries, such as Argentina, Vietnam, and Israel, have suggested they will reduce their tariffs and non-tariff barriers," Greer said in written testimony seen by Reuters.
Argentina and Israel? Those are their best mates. A phone call would have got those changed.

This seems bad. His mates doing Nazi salutes, now he's on to "at least the Jews got bread".

I missed "other countries can just send us money if they have a trade deficit".

Am I the only one who's thinking Trump is starting to make Truss look like a fucking genius in comparison?

I saw someone BTL on the Guardian compare this to being a member of the EU - "pay money to get tariff-free trade".

Nice to see 3D printing again. It was also a solution to Brexit frictions, according to Andrew Neil. But fair play, Joel here has taken that idea and run with it. Patriotic Americans knocking up complex aircraft parts in their garages, like Jobs and Wozniak knocked up computers in theirs (except I now see that's a myth).

Are Trump's general whereabouts known at all times to "Allies" such as the UK? Can't we say the RAF are coming over on the pretext of an exercise or display, but when they get there just carpet bomb the fuck out of wherever he is? And afterwards just say it was a rogue squadron, apologise, and say it won't happen again because all involved have been dealt with. And ideally make it one of those non-apologies too. "I'm sorry your President was in the way of one of our bombs. "

Welcome aboard this Boeing 787, you’ll be pleased to learn that the important engine parts have been printed by a true patriot, Cleetus, in his Arkansas basement

The only US business I know of that genuinely started life in a garage (and went on to be phenomenally successful) was Hewlett-Packard.

Thanks, I didn't realize the Mao comparison was anything more than general. Very interesting.

Markets rising again. Seems a bit premature? Didn't sound like Trump is going to pause or anything. Is everybody else really on the phone making concessions. Vietnam did that and the US told them to fuck off.

I hope they're not relying on stuff like this. As you may have guessed, the bit about Biden in there is bollocks.
