There's a clip of Sebastian Gorka (fun fact - Google "Hungarian cunt Trump advisor" and his name's at the top of the list) saying that this is all brinkmanship and tariffs will be reduced for whoever begs and abases themselves enough - or is it drops all tariffs on American goods?
Hard to see this as anything more than strong-arm stuff, with an eye on shorting the world and picking it up for pennies. Only real solution is give the Yanks the isolation they apparently want, and deserve.

The interesting question is to what extent, or even just whether, the cult of Trump will now begin to wither and (hopefully) die.
I’ll correct myself there. The absolute core Trump cult (e.g. the wankers he “pardoned” as soon as he got back into office) will presumably remain as fucking batshit and loyal to the Tangerine Twat as ever they were.
No, the truly interesting phenomenon to be anticipated is the scales falling from the eyes of some of the 77 million poor deluded bastards that voted forTrump because they believed the bullshit about bringing prices down and prosperity for all and the rest of the MAGA bollocks and because they didn’t like Kamala. Because surely it has to happen.
The mid-term elections next year are going to be interesting, particularly if the madness continues and the Democrats get their act together.

The only discernible logic is that Trump wants people to bribe him for carve outs.

Bribes and sycophancy. I hope it backfires, everyone just buys stuff from elsewhere, and he has to reverse in short order because all the people who fund him suddenly have a lot less money.

I was thinking more of bribes from US companies. See what's happening with law firms. Though it's possible they don't actually carry out this work for Trump interests that they've said they will, it's been hugely damaging to their reputations already.
I can think of no greater legacy than if Janey's sign goes global.

Imagine being sacked by Laura Loomer. This really can't go on.

This has given me a Velvet Underground ear worm, Lady Godiva's Operation. About all we're missing is the Welsh accent and electric viola.

An engaging attempt to make strategic sense of Trump’s attempt to restructure American power in worlds they created (neoliberal globalism and the Bretton Woods system). But does the US still have trust and pulling power to remould the world?

He's fucked off to one of his golf courses, where he's hosting (Saudi-backed) LIV golf, which is even more shitty than their football league. It's mind blowing that you can back this stuff (which shat all over the established US PGA tour) and still be treated like a patriot.

Meanwhile, the real victims...
Percy Pig’s US adventure may be short-lived as M&S responds to Trump tariffs
I had a (brief) look at that 417 page document that was a consultation for the UK to put tariffs on US goods. Sticking a metaphorical pin in at random I got constructional wood veneers and diesel-electric locomotives...

The news sends Clive Lewis into a Meldrew grump. Did they used to sell Percy Pigs at raves?

If things get really spicy, can the US government hobble the internet. Sure, the DNS is devolved to a granular level, but could they simply rely upon scale? Single servers cannot even be expected to cope with the load.
I would hope that the EU will be considering this as a live-wire issue.

Eh glitz glam kiss the flag and act tough and all's well. Expecting consistency from the contorted miserable blancmange that makes up the right voting base is like expecting sense from a pathological narcissist given the keys to the White House...

Some may think Trump means you’ll receive $5m for becoming a US citizen but even that isn’t very enticing.

Ha ha ha.
You know where some of those strange "countries" in the tariff schedule probably came from?
Whoever it was on Norfolk Island who registered the .nf domain in 1996 must have thought it was a cool bit of up-to-date branding. Nearly 30 years later, some moron has mistaken it for a separate country (to Australia) at a higher rate.
The Cook Islands is also getting tariffs too. Did somebody watch Nathan Barley?
