A few years ago, November 11th landed on a Sunday. My employers at the time held a 2 minute silence on the Friday (9th) so people had an opportunity to remember with their work colleagues. Not joking.

That's normal in government departments. I used to go to them in DfE.

Suella epitomises that most dead end of supposed modern political attributes: “annoying all the right people”. What sort of programme for improving people’s lives is that, when it’s at home?

This evidence of favourable treatment of leftists seems pretty weak. How many really big rightwing demonstrations are there? The only comparison I've seen was anti-lockdown protests. The arrests there were made under Covid laws, and people seemed to be pretty flagrant about breaking the laws from what I saw of those. So not really surprising lots of people got nicked. And it's much harder to arrest a bunch of fast moving younger people who run away than a bunch of people who stand there saying "Go on, arrest me!" and who in many cases are actively seeking martyrdom.

Republican demonstrators were arrested en masse and then let go without charge. Not really left-wing bias.

The comments are interesting - is this true?

If you want a measure of the inherent cruelty of Tory Ministers (I know - where to begin with the current destroyers of democracy, the economy and kindness to others!) it was PM Thatcher forbidding any injured Falkland veterans from taking part in the Victory parade.

There's a reference to it in one of Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole books, which were vaguely contemporary.

EDL at their foamy peak (over 10 years ago) got 9,000 a couple of times, FLA never approached those numbers.

There's an employer around here (not mine) doing the same - only with a three minute silence.

Apparently Braverman's supporters are threatening to put in letters of no confidence in Rishi if he sacks her. I just saw this on Twitter.



So if he sacks her he is screwed and if he doesn't sack her he will forever be seen as weak. He will probably wimp out and try and get her to do a job swap with James Cleverly. Her diplomatic skills would play well with the Brexit brigade.

He's only screwed if they get the numbers, they need about 50, I reckon they've got about 20ish at most.

She only managed 27 votes in the leadership contest last year but I suppose backers of Mordaunt and Badenoch might jump on board if they think their candidate has a chance of claiming the top job is Sunak is ousted.

Even the biggest headbangers amongst them know they can't survive another change of leadership. They know they're fucked so they're running round picking up everything that isn't nailed down and their only interest is in taking it right to the wire. In this respect Sunak truly is one of them.

There will be Tory MPs calculating that, if Sunak stays, they might retain their seat.
