* 'We're hiding in a shelter now'

Another horrific shooting but I why it is it the lead story on the 10 O'clock news? On a day when fuel protesters brought motorways to a holt, an environmental protester glued themself to the Haywain in the National Gallery, the war in Ukraine grinds on, and the Tories continue to defend a sex offender, I simply don't get it.

Probably due to the context of it following so soon after two other recent major mass shooting incidents in the States, plus of course the recent US Supreme Court ruling which expands gun rights.

If it bleeds, it leads. Besides, it's exciting and a long way away. Next best thing to an action movie.

If America thought that this was happening in another country and with another religion, America would invade America to free it from the religious tyranny of America:

You're moving into TERF territory there. It's best not to take much notice.

An outbreak of sanity in Kansas?
Kansas abortion vote: Major victory for pro-choice groups
Projections suggest Kansans voted by more than 60% to uphold the state's constitutional right for women to access abortion.
It's just a projection for now, and the official result will be confirmed in a week.

Kansas has its moments- the Democrats won the governorship in 2018, when the Republicans stuck up Kris Kobach. Biden also got a decent swing there in 2020. This result though suggests that people who voted Trump and Kobach support abortion rights. One factor might be that Kansas is a well off state, which sets it apart from other Republicans states.
Just like expanding Medicaid won in referenda in Idaho, Missouri, Oklahoma and Nebraska, I think Roe v Wade rights would win in a few Republican states. But they're unlikely to get a vote on it, sadly.

Yeah it's not as conservative as say Oklahoma
Interesting thread on why Kansas rejected this amendment

What, precisely, the fuck was Nancy Pelosi thinking when she decided to go to Taiwan and provoke China?

She appears to have achieved nothing apart from ruining years of diplomacy.
America is, in my considered opinion, fucked.

The US wants to reassure its concert of allies in Asia that it remains steadfast in its defence commitments to them. Probably better to have done it in Seoul or Tokyo.
