The parodies always nail them.

Which I think says a lot.

Slight tangent, but all these old sitcoms reminds me that I once managed to ‘inception’ a colleague at work into remembering a 70s sitcom I’d entirely made up called “Mind them Turds!”, which starred Thora Hird as an overbearing mother trying to prevent her put upon son escaping the family business of a sewage farm.

Lee Anderson really is a cock. I met the late Ronnie Wolfe on a number of occasions he wrote 'On the Buses' and the 'Rag Trade'. He was really great, you couldn't have met a kinder more generous person who was always helping younger writers trying to break into the business. Ronnie was Jewish and he was brought up in the East End of London when Oswald Moseley and his Black shirts were a major threat in the area. Ronnie would have found everything about Anderson utterly repugnant.

I also know a number of people who have worked with John Sullivan who wrote 'Only Fools and Horses'. He was also generous with his time helping new writers breaking into the industry. He would also have loathed right wing racists like Anderson.

Sitcoms reflected what life was like at the time that they were written. Many old sitcoms have been retired from TV because they are no longer relevant and do use offensive stereotypes which are now seen as outdated and wrong.

Along with Ronnie Chesney, otherwise known as ‘the other Two Ronnies.’

Does 30p Lee live in a Dick Van Dyke fantasy world of English working class life or just another day in the land even Nottingham forgot?
