Learned an interesting one today: some American health insurance providers will not pay the treatment bills of those who have refused to be vaccinated and subsequently get hospitalised with Covid, on the grounds that it was preventable.
Some edgelords gonna be like:
As ever, the answer is a GoFundMe page - has happened in the case I mentioned.
GoFundMe - for others to pay for the consequences of your actions.

I'm possibly on an extreme, in believing that America has passed the point of no return.
A playground for corporations, or the already wealthy.
A growing dystopia for the average citizen.
A looming nightmare for any country or organisation that ends up on its shitllst.
The first and last are well publicised.
A skim through GoFundMe provides an excellent example of the second.

On the contrary Bones, I think you're bang on the money.

Certainly the view of #2 son & partner. They left San Francisco last week and are now working in Copenhagen. They don't think they'll be going back.

Seems to be remarkably little fuss about 100 odd people still dying of Covid every day.

I think that's because there's so much management of expectations going on in the media along the lines of "but it could be
so much worse". A lot of people seek to compare figures where we were on this day a year ago, sometimes to support an anti-vax position by saying "more dead now than then, how's your precious vaccine look now?
I won't be having it because here's the proof it kills you" whilst conveniently disregarding the huge change the virus has undertaken since then.
Of course, we don't have a control group for comparison, although last night Waitrose could have been that - where masks are in the minority (few, if any of the staff wear one) and to my surprise, the number of Asian shoppers who weren't wearing one came as a surprise too, or are they now less likely to have a serious outcome with Delta?
Similarly, one of the town centre pubs offering its "funktion [sic] room" for "freedom party season", along with some arrogant cunt who walked maskless into the deli today looking for all the world like David Bellamy, who muttered and loudly announced they'd lost a customer and he wouldn't be returning because there was no-one to serve him (in fact one staff member was helping an elderly lady with £40 of purchases and then putting it through the till, whilst his colleague was busy fetching the trays of freshly-cooked sausage rolls in a variety of flavours from the partner butchers opposite in readiness for the lunchtime rush) does illustrate why infections are still climbing round my way.

Yeah, I've seen that anti-vax nonsense. On the other hand, I wonder if the lack of concern now is because the dead are largely the unvaccinated, and lots of people think "morons".
I think we ought to have vaccinated teenagers earlier. I know it wasn't a government decision though.

I'm in conversation with someone on another forum who has severe needle phobia but is also, frankly, a massive berk: he
genuinely seems to want the entire world to bend to his will so he doesn't have to do anything
he doesn't like (like get vaccinated) and is upset that he can't do the things he wants to do like go to gigs, football matches, take day trips to Paris on the train, that sort of thing. He also pays a lot of attention to the likes of Julia Dunning Kruger, the Daily Mail and other assorted 'thinkers' and comes across as none too bright, but definitely he has multiple, major mental health issues.
He pointed out that "but I read 30% of today’s cases were double jabbed so certainly doesn’t stop transmission so I wish they would ditch the passport idea [sic]". He's convinced that vaccine passports will be introduced which will restrict his rights to do the things he enjoys and has frequently said he'll take legal action "and has the funds to do so". As far as I can tell, he's a shop worker.
I've pointed him at
this blog entry on the BMJ website but whether he'll read it, let alone take on board the points raised is another matter.
Meanwhile tonight's local news points out that Peterborough has the highest case rate in the region coupled with the lowest vaccine uptake.
What's that phrase so beloved of aficionados of a certain TV programme? Oh yes - "winter is coming"

After having a front seat for some 15 months, I've now lost touch with the latest science on vaccination and the pandemic.
A few months back there was controversy over "how low to go" (How young to stop vaccinations).
I don't know whether Delta has changed the thinking.

I wonder if the government is now pushing to vaccinate teenagers because they have worked out that the cost of vaccinations is cheaper than spending money on improving ventilation in schools.

Some manager was wandering around yesterday with a shiny new CO2 monitor, before admitting he'd not read the instructions and didn't know how to use it.

They were never going to spend any money on ventilation in schools.
It's extremely expensive (schools aren't usually designed with wide-opening windows, for the obvious reason) and
They believe they're going to get herd immunity amongst the young. That's the plan.

He was an American hero. A brave man who truly set an example.
Or as we'd say in the UK "U is wiv da angles".
Sadly, a number of vulnerable types will follow the example of this "Brave man".

On a sunny tropical island somewhere, I imagine.
Just come back from Hobby Craft and went via Lidl.
I wish I'd avoided the latter - it's in a scummier part of town and if mask wearing was approaching even 10%, I'd be surprised. I was wearing one, but only a IIR type and now I am fucking
terrified I'll have caught Covid, as these individuals don't have any idea of keeping distance either...

It takes a certain kind of "bravery" to leave four children fatherless, a mountain of medical debt, and a widow who believed that those marriage vows actually meant something.
The balance sheet says that the world is a better place without the damage being wreaked by these narcissistic attention-whores. Cunt.

About as brave as “bones spurs” Donald.
Seen it mentioned a few times now how those that have died who were “leaders” were good men and the “best fathers” ever.
And I’m sorry but I can’t reconcile that in my brain, the men have died from something preventable and led many others to the same conclusions.
Those kids will now grow up without a father due to something so preventable. That’s heart shattering for the kids and Wife.

And in many cases leaving their families with a lot of debt as increasingly, medical insurance companies are not paying out if the person was unvaccinated as their view is that their illness was preventable.
So it'll be GoFundMe to the rescue again.
