True. And there must have been at least one auto update in that time.

I'll bet his mates in the Murdoch press could open the phone in minutes.

The explanation below makes even less sense - how can you have a ‘version’ of a PIN? It’s either right, or not - that’s the whole point.

Either way, it sounds like he realises the game is up and no one is buying his bullshit excuse.

He must have mis-heard when someone said "put in" the password, because he couldn’t spell Владимир Путин

What a revolting development.

Shouldn’t be too hard but what’s the charge? Treason will do

If the price of throwing Johnson to the wolves is to stick up Barry Gardiner as well, we can live with that.

What you got to hide fat boy? Doesn’t look like it’s those COVID big calls you got right, does it?

It was being reported on Newsnight last night that someone in Johnson’s office had the password written down somewhere.

My husband (software tester) and I (librarian) were contemplating how much trouble we'd get into for the same behaviour.

Is the government covering Johnson’s back? This password nonsense sounds like dimwittery Braverman would come up with.

It could be entirely Johnson's own work. It seems like the sort of bollocks Braverman would come up with because they're both in the same intellectual sub-basement. It's not only great minds that think alike.

More likely Johnson treating the public as idiots, that usually works for him.

It's from the Dorries school of "Hur hur, what am I like, total klutz with technology, me! Don't we all do that?" deflection. Comes from the same place as "I was crap at maths" or "Science was never my strong point".

Besides, for people of a certain background, you don't have to know how things work - you just need to know who to prod until they do work.

He's built his entire political career on the back of the lovable buffoon bumbling through. A phone that he can't understand ("All this modern stuff, eh?") is a piece of piss to him.

I've dealt with them, and they come from a far wider background than you'd imagine.

I think it’s a bumbling idiot ruse too far, because it’s too implausible for an everyday object. Your elderly nan not knowing how to work a computer is one thing. A middle-aged ‘executive’ (for want of a better descriptor) who can’t work the tool he uses every single day and has done for decades just isn’t swallowable. It’s blatantly a stalling tactic while he tries to figure out how he can delete stuff without it being obvious he’s deleted stuff. Which he can’t do, because for that he really *isn’t* techy enough and he never thought far enough ahead to consider he’d ever be caught.
