ConservativeHome harks back to the 17th century.

It was them Puritans wot done it.

Will the Puritans drive out of the Commons not only Johnson but anyone else as audacious, cavalier and irreverent?

https://conservativehome.com/2023/06/16 ... rreverent/

Whine whine whine whine something Lord Byron Whine Whine.

The below the line aren't buying it.
This is arse-licking on a grand scale, but what makes it truly worse is the man you are sucking up to has done more damage to the party and country than anyone in living memory.

Add to that you seem to be dismissing his history of lying as it its some trivial school-boy joke. It is not!
I can't believe you would stoop this low to defend people thrusting their unwanted hands into other people's underwear on the basis that you want to defend Boris Johnson's poor judgement. Would you tell a close relative assaulted in that way that it was "just a bit of a laugh" and some old twaddle about Lord Byron? This is exactly what Rafael Behr was talking about. Look what Johnson has done to your moral sense.
Please tell me you don’t believe this, no one is this thick surely?
Brexit is a puritan project, the harder and purer the leaving the better. Brexiteers are puritans in every single sense.

Probably the best comment here.
Are there two Boris Johnsons ? There's the hugely popular, fearless , force of nature who leads from the front , a political powerhouse and then there's the sad victim, persecuted by puritans.

The Privilege Committee only issued recommendations it was up to the House of Commons to vote on them . I would have thought that the Force of Nature would stand up in front of MPs and make his case but instead the Sad Victim resigned.
Resigned or chickened out like all bullying cowards???
Lots of people who shouted about “Parliament being supreme” seem to have a problem with it being supreme. He resigned as PM when none of his ministers could work with him after the Pinscher debacle. His chance to rebut the judgement would have been in the debate on it. He took the Trump route of shouting loudly about traitors and muddying the water.

I'll leave it there.

Youngian wrote: Fri Jun 16, 2023 5:24 pm So far no one has commented on Johnson’s debut article, a product placement for a diet drug
BORIS JOHNSON: The wonder drug I hoped would stop my 11.30pm fridge raids for cheddar and chorizo didn't work for me. But I still believe it could change the lives of millions https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... rk-me.html
The comments have started to appear, all incredibly sycophantic. Dacre has double cunted and the mods are complying.
The responses to the comments tell a different story, though.

Come off it Malcolm. You know you don't start spouting facts when a right-winger is having a good moan.

Maybe I'm missing something, but didn't Johnson write the odd piece for the Mail, or the Torygraph, while he was Prime Minister? As does Sunak, and other Prime Ministers while in office, too?

I'm vaguely recalling Blair as PM writing occasionally in The Mirror, too - or am I imagining this ?

I think Newsthump have nailed it

Arsehole to write bollocks in shitrag

Boris Johnson is to write for the Daily Mail.

The former politician is to use his special brand of fact-free verbosity to agitate the credulous morons who still buy the newspaper or believe what they read on the website.

That’s government comms although Johnson probably pocketed a fee for his efforts.

Bozo's still got Lord Moylan in his corner.

Note the clever elision of "freedom of expression" and taking a million pounds.

He's a horrible character and was an almost as bad Prime Minister. His acolytes defended him because it was just Boris being Boris. Now his arrogance, lies and refusal to accept that rules also apply to him is destroying the Tory party and the same subservients are helping him. Oh, the joy.

Having read Johnson's article in the Mail I find it hard to believe that Johnson actually paid for his prescription for this drug. I think it was more likely that Johnson and other government ministers were given access to the drug free of charge in the hope that the government would agree to make the drug available on prescription via the NHS.

I find it hard to believe he wasn't paid by the drug company.

I can't believe they're any happier with the article than Paul Dacre is. He's told the world that their wonder drug is expensive and made him so ill that he had to stop taking it, not the most persuasive marketing puff piece I've ever seen.

I saw a tweet yesterday that said Boris Johnson set out to be new Winston Churchill but he's now settled for being the next Adrian Chiles.

I can see why Johnson didn’t want to go in all guns blazing serving his political vendettas but doesn’t he have any civic or non party hobby horses to highlight? Save the elephants and restore town hall clocks sort of thing. But he has no passions beyond his self-gratification.

As I recall, when he was 'recovering' from his brush with Covid, he was binge watching Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. While I confess to being a fan of both, I don't treat them as a how to guide. He, however, seemed rather enamoured with the kings, battles and dates/big figures make history approaches of both.

Or maybe he's just massively emotionally stunted?

I would love to see what he thought was a softball interview absolutely skewer him on this. Ask if he still does it, ask to see one, ask if he can donate one to charity. If he says he doesn’t do it anymore, ask him who has seen one who can talk about it with them. Ask if he did this while in hospital or at home recovering from Covid. Ask if he’s given them as gifts, then follow up with whoever he names, then follow up with him when they say they’ve never had one.

Keep going and going and going on it. Because it’s bullshit and always was, and yet it’s so simple. But because it’s so simple it would fall apart rapidly because he won’t have put any thought into it. Just turn ‘bus boy Boris’ into something that haunts him. Make it Al Capone’s taxes - the absurd lie that makes it obvious he’s a pathological liar.
