I’ll raise with the ERG’s chancellor nomination; John Redwood.

Redwood would have an interesting Sam Brownback in Kansas vibe. Though, to his credit, Sam didn't start a trade war with the rest of the US.

So apart from that idea being the essential equivalent of fitting a fecking massive square peg into a tiny round hole, he's advocating a completely open backdoor of the UK border via all EU member countries? Yeah, that'll please the gammons!

I’m increasingly convinced they’re all backing Truss now because they know that means they can have another go in a year or so with both her and Sunak out of the way.

Game of Thrones, if the throne were a knackered public toilet in a run-down park.

Pegs, tiny holes, backdoors - there's a whole lot of "trending" going on at the moment.

Interesting speculation on the Tory leadership fiasco : Truss is now absurdly far ahead, and certain to win the contest and become PM. In the light of this, perhaps Sunak will , rather than go through the motions for another pointless 5 weeks, decide instead to throw in the towel and see Truss installed without further ado. This would apparently have the not inconsiderable advantage of ensuring that Boris Johnson’s time as PM will be shorter than that of Theresa May. A form of revenge which Sunak may well relish. He could also earn brownie points by presenting his withdrawal as being for the good of the country (not that he actually gives a flying fuck about that).

I've just had a horrific vision of Truss standing outside number ten and intoning "Where there is discord, may we bring harmony......."

The abuse Sunak is starting to get from those quarters is not racist, oh no.

After characteristically keeping her head down, Lucy Frazer has come out to support Sunak. When the dead cert front runner isn’t bagging stealthy hack MPs like Frazer, that’s a bad omen. Its not a risky move as a gang of sensibles in the Tory party need to emerge from this carnage and SE Cambs isn’t on the frontline of the war on woke. South Cambs even less so and its interesting their paid up headbanger MP Anthony Browne isn’t backing Truss.

Sunak lost the room with his ‘get real’ economics. It whiffs of a heretic who doesn’t believe. After wrongly identifying his audience as the Keith Joseph fan club, Sunak is making ludicrous and desperate 11th hour attempts to indulge the membership.

From the BBC live feed on the hustings in Exeter:

Truss is asked by an audience member how she will avoid plunging the country into debt.

Truss has vowed to reduce taxes if she becomes prime minister.

"The money is going to come from thriving enterprises, thriving businesses and economic growth," she responds.

Taxing people and businesses too much will "throttle growth", she adds.

"We believe in enterprises and people keeping more of their money."
Can you imagine the brouhaha if Labour came out with this fantasy economics?

Her main economic guru appears to be Patrick Minford who is nearly 80, Thatcher often quoted him when she was throwing millions of people onto the dole.

I beginning to wonder what Truss has been doing in the cabinet for the last 3 years because she seems to have disagreed with the governments economic policy and lockdowns. Did she actually make her objections known at the time or did she just nod these policies through?

Have a gut fear ‘says it like it is’ Liz will get a poll bounce. Brimming with optimistic belief in Britain and worthless nationalist symbolism, she could be Boris who doesn’t take the piss.

Really? Yes, she’s certainly Continuity Johnson, but I’m far from certain that is to her advantage in terms of the wider electorate.
