Not so sure about Tiverton. The Lib Dems actually start closer to the Tories than in North Shropshire, which they won by a street (15.8%). Bound to be some local issues the Lib Dems can blame on the Tory controlled county council and Tory led district council.

The Tories didn't do that well in the local elections in 2019.

Though in fairness the Tories did well v the Lib Dems in the Devon County council seats that were up in Mid Devon in 2021.

Amanda Platell has written a column today claim tat misogyny is not a big issue is the house of commons.

Oh, Angela Rayner... do stop playing the misogyny card - it's not true
She appeared on ITV’s Lorraine show, wearing a modest trouser suit, saying she doesn’t want to be judged by what she wears but who she really is, a serious politician. Her claims over the way she says she has been demeaned have launched a tsunami of furious complaints from the woke brigade, claiming that Parliament is full of men who treat women badly.

Having worked there for decades, I know that is not true. The vast majority of male MPs are decent. Yes, there still exists a tiny number of sexist dinosaur MPs, but to tar all men with the same brush is just wrong. Thanks to Rayner, charges of woman-hating are now being thrown about like confetti.

Angela Rayner is a clever and talented politician who doesn’t need curly hair extensions and split skirts to pack a punch. Describing her as sexy when she chooses to flash her enviable legs is not misogynistic, it’s the simple truth.
Platell hasn't worked in the house of commons for decades, she worked there briefly in the late 90's while working has William Hague's head of media relations. She got plenty of criticism in that role mainly because she was fairly rubbish but also because she is a woman. How any female journalist can look at events in the commons and reach the conclusion that sexism and misogyny is not a problem is absolutely ridiculous.

Talking of Rayner, Dan Hodges is back with the devastating news that Rayner made a joke about the "Basic Instinct" thing on the House of Commons terrace. Sam Freedman and others have pointed out that the original story was that she was actually doing it, not that she had made a joke about it.

Someone else pointed out that if we're taking every joke completely seriously, as something that definitely happened, then a certain "hilarious" Prime Minister might be in trouble.

Luckily the BVI PM has a shit hot expensive lawyer in the form of Geoffrey Cox. His parliamentary colleagues couldn’t praise his legal expertise enough.
The premier of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) has been arrested in a sting operation in Miami on charges of conspiring to import cocaine into the United States and money laundering.

Andrew Fahie and Oleanvine Maynard were arrested at a Miami airport after being invited by undercover agents to see a shipment of $700,000 in cash that BVI officials expected to receive for their part in the alleged plot, the court papers alleged.

Liz Truss, the British foreign secretary, said she was “appalled” by the arrest.

You mean the banking secrecy that has absolutely no connection to the money laundering?

Ha ha ha ha.

Shock as other parties seek to do the best they can under First Past The Post. This means there's a "pact", apparently, rather than something a child could work out. And it's denying proper democratic choice- wait till he hears about the Brexit Party at the last election.

And a common thread of the 4 examples who made common cause with the Tories.

Mail reports that Tory enquiry uses evidence from unnamed Tory MPs to blame Labour. Now there's a surprise.

Some unsubstantiated bollocks about Angela Rayner

What a fool I was. I was only a puppet, and so was Ulster, and so was Ireland, in the political game that was to get the Conservative Party into power.

Do as we say...

A Conservative police and crime commissioner who pledged to crack down on speeding has been caught breaking a 30mph limit five times within a 12-week period.

The PCC for Nottinghamshire police, Caroline Henry, admitted the offences, including two committed on consecutive days, at a previous hearing in February at Nottingham magistrates court...
