Or Alison Pearson wrote to herself.

Even if it weren't her talking, it wouldn't ring true to me. If this many are doing computer science at university, it's doubtless a well-trodden path at the school. So at the very least, the person who oversees university admissions, Head of Careers and the Maths teachers would have known about it. Probably the kid's Housemaster and Tutor as well (the Tutor may well be one of the Maths teachers). And the kid has never spoken to any of the kids doing it in the year above. Nor indeed to the other kids in his class. Doesn't he at some point think "hang on, why are all the others doing Maths?" He just applies to university, goes for interviews (one presumes?) and gets rejection letters, none of which mentions the problem? That's utter nonsense.

What if he hadn't known what he wanted to do at university when he chose his A Levels? Maths would surely give you more options, and there'd be no shortage of people in his school who'd point that out to him.

Indeed. Very odd that Pearson names the 5 universities he applied to, but not the four that she's accusing of discriminating.

If Alison hasn’t a mate who reckons you can get arrested for saying you’re English she would have invented one.

It may be different now, but when I was applying to university, an Oxbridge application took up 3 of your 8 slots. And if they turned you down, it wasn't surprising if some of the other 5 would too.

As I say, might be different today, but "rejected by Oxford, four others said no, he's stuck with Southampton" doesn't sound as good.

There were only 5 slots when I applied (Young people today eh!).

But it was pretty general knowledge that the Universities that considered themselves "Just below Oxbridge".
Bristol, Exeter, Durham, Imperial weren't interested unless you were their 1st or 2nd choice.

Slight problem; de Santis (which incidentally doesn’t sound very American to me) isn’t standing as a British politician

Other slight problem is that DeSantis is really mediocre politician

If De Santis is “really mediocre”, what does that make Trump?

Oh how I wish Trump was a rhetorical question...

We'll miss hard hitting investigative journalism like this, mind.

Certainly some corporations have retreated on "woke" after protests, but it's generally a better bet than homophobic pensioners.

This is Mail-like. Telegaph v Rory McIlroy, who's had the temerity to oppose the PGA Tour selling out to the Saudi Royal family. Can't have that.

Rory McIlroy's involvement in a foul mouthed row is, per the summary, to be sworn at by someone else.

Shock as former Prime Minister of Commonwealth ally receives an honor.

Ardern is a hate figure internationally by the bone head right. Tory pensioners though are much more likely to admire her for getting a grip on Covid, and likely not particularly keen on some of the other people who have got honours.

And it's now property of Lloyds bank.

Turns out the Barclay brothers really bought into that feudal overlord shit, right up to the point of not paying for anything.

I'm surprised at how profitable the papers are. The economic distress in entirely in the rest of the group. If they can turn this profit from the cheapo operation it's become, then somebody will buy it, maybe for the sort of price they're suggesting.

Heath does appear to be having some form of public breakdown. His stories are increasingly utter gibberish.
