There's certainly bollocks about ULEZ, 15 minute cities, whatever. But all the indications are that it was seriously unpopular. Even if we allow that the constituency is "less swingy", I think the swing was about 10 percent lower than it would otherwise have been.

A lot of people cite "cost of replacement vehicle" as a reason to oppose ULEZ.
Okay, it's a non-runner at the moment but my 20 year old petrol BMW is ULEZ compliant and I can't believe it's worth a fortune, even if it was running - few hundred quid tops...?

The one group ULEZ will hit most is small businesses running non-Euro 6 vans under 3.5t GVW. I can imagine much opposition from that quarter.
Yep. "Polluter pays" sounds very easy, but judging by the people who deliver parcels to me, it's "not very well off very hardworking person pays". Dovetail that with other policies and it's "hardworking not very well off pays for benefits to people who have too many kids".

I can see two strands of opposition there. First, the usual cranks who hate surveillance, or anyone telling them what to do (telling other people what to do, however...). Second though are the people who really like living in suburbs. Really like living in them. Don't want anything intruding on mile after mile of lawns. No shops because the kids will hang out there. No schools because the kids will run riot and their mums will park there. No leisure facilities because the kids will use them. No doctor's because...you get the general idea. An Englishman's home is his castle, and his lawn is all he needs. That and space for his car whenever he needs to travel. After all, public transport is for the lower orders.
So in summary, cranks and snobs.

Not parked on his drive, though. Parked on the bit of road he regards as 'his', just outside his front garden. With another car parked half on the verge and half on the footpath, because walking is for kids and losers.

It isn't just them. Seems like hardly anybody was keen on it. I wouldn't be surprised if Khan, like proper Labour Andy Burnham, delayed it.
And I'd be surprised if Jamie Driscoll were in any hurry to do one.

Laurence Fox lost his deposit in Uxbridge.
I'll take my wins where I can find them.

What I can see the Tories trying in the London Mayoral election is attempting to link ULEZ to the Just Stop Oil "road walkers"

He's now waffling on about the BBC 'rigging the election' because they didn't interview him, despite him literally chasing them around the streets begging to be interviewed.

How on earth does that constitute "a rocky start"?
This poor lad is going to be absolutely monstered by the Mail no a regular basis, isn't he? And the 'inbetweeners' jibe seems to be here to stay.

Two percent will be enough for Question Time to give Larry Fox the Farage seat residency. He’s a character.

Were Labour to mock a Tory on account of their old age, they wouldn't find that funny at all.
Meanwhile Mercer really is getting into this new "twat" persona. Gone seems to be the "just an army officer trying to do right by the lads and lasses" image.

I don't recall Mercer dismissing Dehenna Davison (who was 26 when she was elected MP for Bishop Auckland) as an "Inbetweener". I'm sure the fact that she's a "foxy redhead and top totty" not, y'know, one of THEM made no difference whatsoever.

Nor Sara Britcliffe (Con, Hyndburn) who was 24.
Meanwhile, Neal has a theory.
How many people are unaware of tactical voting nowadays? 4.6% for Greens and Lib Dems combined isn't very many. I think the downside of "Labour pact with eco loon Greens" would be a big problem.

I work in Hyndburn. Ms. Britcliffe's father is a local councillor, and failed parliamentary candidate himself.
She's very much One Of Them, even if someone'd expressed reservations over her age.
