Papers seem to think so, and are making the Thatcher comparison on a few front pages. With Sunak going strong on claiming he's a low tax Tory, it looks like they're gearing up for a leadership contest.

The vital difference is, the picture of Thatcher projected an air of "Don't even think about it" (who it was aimed at is open to debate). T

The Truss picture projects an air of "I'm on a ruddy tank! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Hague wearing a baseball cap on the water slide came to mind.

Worryingly, as a politically unreliable halfwit, Truss is the least scary option for the benighted isle right now.

I was thinking before her and Javid are probably the two who can avoid any Covid fall out (it’s why I think Sunak isn’t getting it).

Maybe Javid will be dragged down with it as well which leaves only Truss, and this wouldn’t be the first time remember May and Brexit.

Javid showed a bit of backbone over Cummings, while Truss has benefited from largely positive coverage (however puffed up that is) and the obvious benefit of being Foreign Secretary - as long as nothing bad happens on your watch (see Raab) you're basically alright.

Compare to Chancellor or Home secretary, both of which are basically firefighting from day one, approaching net zero approval from the bad side.

Liz Truss was on the news earlier claiming that she knows nothing about last years Downing Street Christmas party because she was too busy getting trade deals over the line! I really hope some evidence comes out showing her attending a Christmas party. Presumably if pictures of her at a seasonal gathering do emerge she will claim she was only there to get a trade deal over the line.

"Getting trade deals over the line" - the new "discussing Uganda"?

She'd probably claim she was working on a trade deal with some guy who's importing and distributing toys from Lapland.

The Express have already tried to spike her guns, saying, quite rightly and belatedly, that her trade deals with Tuvalu etc aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Interesting. I was assuming that was cheapo shoestring editorial lack of supervision at work there- the Express has let some surprising stuff through before. But you're right, it's probably deliberate.

Anyway, vintage "My biggest fault? Too much of a perfectionist!" effort from Truss. She's not an obvious details politician.

That's because there is no way on God's green earth that she could grasp them. None. She is congenitally stupid.

She grasped them before the referendum, funnily enough.

Liz is in a government that is part of a global network of liberty. Being generous and assuming all that Truss means by liberty is unfettered free trade, the government can’t even deliver that with its closest neighbours.

Any cabbage knew that. Just not the racist, xenophobic ones. That is why we are where we are.
