Mitch McConnell; Populism bad and science good when it saves my life
Sen. Mitch McConnell rebuked a lawyer associated with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his efforts to rescind approval of the polio vaccine.
The 82-year-old Kentucky Republican, who survived polio as a child, also urged Kennedy, President-elect Donald Trump’s controversial pick for secretary of health and human services, to clarify his own position on the matter.
Mitch McConnell is the personification of the system's utter failures.
'Benefits me and my side? Do it'
...
'Oh no the consequences of my actions, all foreseeable'

He's the personification of the Republican's utter failures. His decision back in early 2021 to not prosecute is one we will a ll regret.

What infuriates me with RFK jr and his idiotic plans is the collateral. If some science-denying conspiracy fuckwit wants to down a pint of raw milk and shit themselves inside out, they can go for it and self-select themselves out of the gene pool. It’s their kids who have no choice, and the wider population who will lose out on herd immunity and the benefits of fluoride and the like who I absolutely feel for.
The “best” case scenario here is that something awful happens very quickly, ideally to someone (in)famous in their camp, and less batshit people get to take charge again to clean up the mess and limit the damage. And it’ll still inevitably mean many kids either dead or with life-changing issues because their parent thinks a guy with a brain worm is a more reliable source of healthcare information than actual doctors.

Another school shooting.
Three dead, six injured at a Christin school in Wisconsin.
Can we now delete
Because we don't have prayer in schools
From the "It isn't guns, it's ...." list.

Sounds odd but fairly typical Maga, hates foreigners but likes them doing the jobs Americans won't
Farmer who voted for Trump hopes he won't do what he promised

House Republicans were (not surprisingly) working with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown. Elmo tweeted obsessively about how the bill was wrong, and they've abandoned it.
You can't get more obviously oligarchic than that.

The farmer may get his wish.
First term Trump #45 was bloody awful at delivering his programme.
No wall worth speaking about, few deportations, etc etc.
He spent much of his term praising alt-right, actual Nazis and killers.
Far less doing difficult boring policy.

Apparently Trump has asked RFK junior to 'figure out the shocking rise in autism'. Given RFK's views on vaccines I think we can guess which way this will go. I wonder if he will be asking Andrew Wakefield to help him with his inquiries.

Why do I foolishly keep overestimating Trump? Suppose it's reasonable to think he may have matured and is looking for a legacy before he dies. But no, he's suggested taking over Panama, Greenland and Canada before he's even taken up office.

TBF invading Panama, Greenland and Canada would certainly ensure he has a legacy...

I know it's probably the usual bollocks from the demented old tit and this is purely hypothetical, but say if the US did invade one of those countries, they'd have to lose the Olympics in 2028, wouldn't they? Russia's been blacklisted from pretty much every sporting event so the same would apply to America as well, or would they get a pass from the sporting bodies? They've also got part of the World Cup in 2026, but given the way FIFA chooses hosts nowadays they'd probably let them keep it.
