Trumps antics have helped reduce the Canadian Tories' poll lead to less than 2 points with a pollster who had them 16 points up before.

I recall Kemi bigged the Canadian Tories up about a month ago. So maybe it wasn't all down to Trump after all.

She'd hear the name and instinctively big up the Salzburg Conservatoire.

(It holds a collection of Mozart's letters, which may or not be emails of dubious origin.)

Mark Carney, who's contemplating standing for party leadership to succeed Trudeau, popped up with Jon Stewart on the Daily Show making unconvincing efforts to Canadian viewers that he's not just a dull technocrat. But his skill set may suddenly make Mark 'serious' Carney the man Canada needs.

Canada's caved in! From the Guardian:
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on X:

"I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.

In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.

Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together."
Doesn't bode well for Greenland.

At least half of this was already in place/signed into law in December.

It's quite possible some is new on top, but one suspects this is a matter of giving the baby what he wants and making his tantrums go away. I.e. implementing things they already were implementing, with a cherry.

I have no doubt there will be more detail in a day or two, by which time the circus will have moved on and all the Very Serious Thinkers will have moved on to the next insecurity.

Yeah I was trying to read through the Mexico one assuming it’s what they already do.

So that's why he wants Greenland.

Much more plausible than casting Trump as a cunning Bismarkian geopolitical strategiser.
This imbecile did however compare air traffic control landings to a complicated game of chess.

Has anyone factored in what is going to happen when a million or more USAian smack-heads can't get their Fentanyl? Or is Trump banking on an economic boost from home-grown labs springing up in disused Mexican restaurants forced to close when their staff got deported?

TBH, if I was Mexico and I'd seen what demand for narcotics and cheap labour up north had done to my economy and society over the past few decades, I'd be thinking about imposing my own punitive tariffs.

Ontario is a big consumer of American booze. The Ontario government has banned the sale of said booze. That's 45% of US alcohol exports gone in one stroke of the pen.

With cheap labour being rounded up and shipped off to the camps, US farmers, market gardeners and landscape gardeners are going to struggle to stay in business. The cost of food will rise dramatically.

Meanwhile, the price of prescription drugs has already risen by a stupid amount (I've seen 4000% cited for some items!).

Yep. Definitely making America great again.

Mexico and Canada are likely to give Trump what he wants; a photo op of troops and extra customs people on their side of the border. Trump can tell his base he won and everyone gets back to business. Including fentanyl dealers to who take away pain from those who can't afford doctors and hospitals.

So Sheldon Whitehouse isn't going to confirm RFK Jnr because he went to college with him. Was that ever actually happening?

But sounds like Tulsi Gabbard has the votes. Republican Senators are going to put a Putinist bullshitter in as Director of National Intelligence. Can't even get 4 of them to dissent. Last time Trump appointed an adult, Dan Coats, to the post and sacked him on Twitter.

Bill Cassidy of Louisiana who actually voted to impeach Trump and is a doctor has done a long thread about what he believes, basically mainstream medicine and science. He's voting to confirm RFK anyway.

A certain news outlet is telling us that it was the bacon-eating taco-chewers who capitulated to the might of the all-conquering rapist.

Three guesses. Go on, three guesses...

Inform and educate, my arse. At least, they are moderately entertaining.
