Today's the day, and some time tomorrow we might find out.

Dan Hodges, famously right about so many things…

Trump has become such a nut that even Farage is distancing himself a bit. Says that he doesn't believe the 2020 election was stolen and that Trump should retire to the gold course if he loses this time.

Hodges forwards some plausible arguments but it's a bit of a free hit. If right, he's Dan Dan the clever prediction man who called it. If not then he can say thank fuck and glad he was wrong.

The Economist, that famously left-leaning publication, has suddenly bumped Harris up 6% for a 56% chance of victory.

Nothing significant has happened in the last 24 hours, so this bounce is entirely down to what they’re hearing on the ground.

My wife tells me that Brian Williams is doing an election show on Amazon Prime, and that it should be worth watching.

Oh dear, I'm getting old. You say Brian Williams and my instant reaction is, "What? Of The Beach Boys? What's he know about it?"

I am really not invested in this shit show apart from the Ruzzians being emboldened to be at our door soon after Christmas, but I am going to turn in now. A 06:00 start and my regular WFH day should be - er - revealing and hopefully a relief.

I daren't be confident.

Those might be very sensible timing. Last time I had work the next day was 2000, which massively fucked me up with tiredness and disappointment. You should at least avoid the first one.

During the 2000 election I was writing jokes for the 11 o' clock show. I had written quite a few jokes in case Bush won and quite a few jokes in case Gore won but in the end I think there were 3 or 4 shows in which none of the jokes could be used because the result was still not clear. I had the same problem this year with the Gold Christmas cracker contest because they wanted topical gags but the closing date was two weeks ago so it was impossible to do gags about the election.

America may well vote in a president who's only running because it's his best chance of not going to jail. Even ten years ago you've have never believed it.

Did you ever meet Iain Lee, and if you did...was he a bit of a knob? I've saw him pop up on tiktok a while back after losing his radio gig, where he was promoting himself as a "mental health counselor" or somesort but tbh he came across as a right knob.

So, this is looking like an almighty shitshow now.

A massive victory for cynicism, cowardice, obstructionism and profound stupidity.

Unless something extraordinary happens, we are in a hell of a lot of trouble.

Trying to see an upside here and the best I can think of is a thaw in tensions between China, it's neighbours and Europe. It will be imperative to keep the international trading system fluid or Trump's protectionism will drag us all down into a global depression. Trump may shrink the US economy by so much that emissions might fall, so there's a bonus.

Here's a scary thought, with no immigration and young women rushing to obtain coil implants because of a national abortion ban, American babies will overwhelmingly be the offspring of Republican apple pie mums.

Don't want to even start talking about the Paris Accords, middle east and Putin.
The only reason I could conceive of visiting America in the near future is as a political curious person to see what life looks like in a police state. Like a Cold War holiday to the Eastern bloc.

The world has suddenly got darker today. The Republicans are projected to win both houses of Congress. Even if Harris does narrowly win the Presidency, her term would be hampered by the opponents. The infamous Project 2025 will be enacted. When Pennsylvania goes into the Trump column, all bets are off. The Democrats have failed spectacularly. The real winner is of this election is Vladimir Putin.

If that moron Le Pen takes the Elysee next year, Starmer is going to be the most politically lonely British PM since Churchill in 1940. But without Germany to worry about.

It's not just 2016 all over again. It's worse than that. I predict that Harris may concede before the end of the day.
