The out-of-court settlement with Tom Watson and Harry Windsor by Murdoch's NGN is, let's acknowledge, fucking MASSIVE.

Finally, an admission of guilt has been wrung out of these fucking brigands. Of perjury, illegal practices, of the appalling ruination of many peoples' lives.

I think that we all owe Tom and Harry a debt of gratitude for their persistence - and courage - in bringing their case to trial.

I really feel for poor Tom, and his former wife Siobhain. I hope today's settlement is of some comfort to them both.

Littlejohn will be dragging out his "Nonce finder general" script for Friday, along with his tales of journalists being treated like criminals, just for doing things that were against the law.

Meanwhile, over on Mail Online, 99% of the commentators are furious. It still never fails to amaze me how so many people STILL don't grasp that tabloid newspapers, the people who publish them and the terrible people who produce them, are the absolute dregs of our society and that they'll fuck over anyone for a penny, INCLUDING THEM. Just baffling.

We can drag out some comfort for accused tabloid hacks by reminding them that prisons are like holiday camps.
I understand the Mail group is up next and they’ve been even more vociferous in their denial of any wrongdoing.

A win, but ...

Nobody goes to Jail.

Creepy Uncle incurs another "cost of doing business".
Unlikely to be on the scale of Fox's "Lying about voting machines" penalty.
And it'll be indirectly tax deductible, as somewhere they'll write down some profits.

From a friend on FB:

Just so you know, he’s a bloody hero.

I suspect strongly that you may see a fair amount of lies about Harry Windsor tomorrow.

But here’s the truth.

Under English law - if the other party offers to settle the case, and you turn them down, and then go on to win, then you have to pay their legal fees.

Yeah, read that again.

Which is why - everyone before, everyone (except Harry and Tom Watson) settled.

But the thing that Harry did was get the admission of guilt from Murdoch.

Yes - he settled. But you basically have to if you are up against someone who can offer you more cash than you might get awarded by a court. Can you imagine winning a years long case - getting substantial damages and then being bankrupted by the outcome? That’s why Hugh Grant had to settle. That’s why everyone settles.

Harry has done a great thing.

Murdoch just had to admit what they did.

That’s all Harry wanted.

It’s a great thing he’s done. And question what you read tomorrow when you see this reported. He did not do this for money. And if you take the trouble to read the admission of guilt by News Group - then you’ll understand what I’m saying if you know the context.

This is a fine man. That’s all I’m saying.
