For the past eight months, a team led by Sandra Parsons, the Mail's Literary Editor, have been working on the project to publish Unity's private musings for the first time.
We call this "scanning and typing".

My money is on Norman Tebbit being the love child. After all he did say that when his dad was out of work he got on a bike.

Hitler was an outlier among dictators by being undersexed, little evidence he had much interest. Like the Ted Heath of fascism.

I can't believe anyone who knows the story of the Mitfords will be overly bothered by any revelations this story unearths and I doubt if anyone else could care less.

Has anyone authenticated these diaries or bunged Dominic Sandbrook a few grand to say they're real?
They probably are real and the family has spent the last five decades touting them for sale. The Mail finally bought them for £200.

Was it the Times that(some years ago) bought into the phoney "Hitler diaries" at Hugh Trevor-Roper's behest (and subsequent red-faced embarassment)?

There's a very insighful recent podcast out there on the Hitler Diary fiasco. Neither Neil or Trevor Roper were convinced at the 11th hour but Murdoch made the call as he cared little about reputations. He was in the entertainment business and as long as the extra copies were sold it mattered little to Murdoch if the diaries were subsequently revealed to be fakes.
