I'm not sure Harris' point proves much, except that we've always posted people from a certain type of background to top jobs.

Turing's an outlier among those names, but headed a department where he got his hands dirty and enabled some revolutionary breakthroughs.
Otherwise, code cracking has almost always leaned heavily on linguists, "pure" mathematicians and the right sort of philospoher.

Put it another way. My nephew has a useful degree in mechanical engineering and his salary is triple what mine is. My niece has a worthless* degree in graphic design and her salary is double that of her brother.

Only a complete twat thinks one degree is worth more than another.

*Worthless according to Ricki Sunshine and various assorted gammons, that is.

Ricky has an MBA.
Back in my day the top choice for the unimaginitive but obedient.

20 years on I saw a bit of guerilla Economics that corelated company growth with the number of MBSs on the board.
The "Curve" looked remarkably similar to the one attributed to mister Laffer.
But once one arrives, they'll appoint more just like them.

While selling mass produced MBAs to students form all around the world certainly saved many universities.
In the 1980s, it isn't a suitable qualification for a national leader.

Thicky has a PPE.
Recent leaders have given it a bad image.
I couldn't possibly comment.

I once saw PPE described as having just enough grounding in each area to bullshit people that you're an expert.

I remember when working in recruitment, one candidate actually referred to himself having an MBA as “I’ve got the passport”

Obviously it's not going to be like doing one of the three branches full time, but you can drop one branch altogether after one year. So I think it'a probably a reasonable course (albeit with the general inflated reputation that Oxford degrees have (my modern languages course was about 30 years out of date).

As I always say, the problem with the sort people who turn up in the public life is more like the Tory Party rather than PPE. Liz Truss is appalling, but so is Nadine Dorries who didn't do PPE.

Oxford Union has a lot to answer for.

Good Lord. We're now on to "war on the motorist". Sunak sounds like he'll be challenging Lutfur Rahman as scourge of Low Traffic Networks.

Sunak likes these tags doesn’t he, he isn’t any of them such as the most northern chancellor and the most driver friendly chancellor.

Good riddance. Will Rishi be hanging out in Silicon Valley with Nick?

Another rugger bugger who'd have made a half decent sales person, just like his boss.

His latest vacuous nonsense is that we allowed the scientists to push the pandemic agenda too much.

This guys meal deal scheme that more than likely helped contribute to COVID’s continuous revelance will hopefully be damned in the enquiry.

He was also suggested to be one of the key names who would try and delay lockdowns. The guy is a vacuous cunt and how he is off suggesting he might walk away from politics.

Well that wouldn’t be a shame eh.

Sunak was ludicrously short of experience to be chancellor. He shouldn't even have got to Chief Secretary to the Treasury in that time, especially given that he took 3 years to get off the backbenches. It's even more ludicrous that he got to run here as the steady old hand.

Sunak is trying to appeal to the group who’s panic about covid subsided rapidly because they were in the first groups vaccinated by age, but were well off enough to not be in care homes or crammed in housing with others. Or those so well off (such as himself) that high-end private healthcare and simply never being in confined communal spaces meant little chance of spread in the early days.

To them, the disease was a minor inconvenience and the bigger inconvenience was the impact to their lifestyle. You can absolutely see why they’d be all for someone who didn’t want to lockdown. Who cares if people are dying when your Ocado delivery is delayed?

He’s still an absolute featherweight, petulant arse, but fair play to Sunak - he’s going to let Liz own every second of it

Kind of funny when you think Sunak only got the high-profile role of Chancellor because Javid wouldn't bend over and let Dominic Cummings tell him who he could have as his own advisors. Beyond splashing the cash during covid, Sunak's not really put his mark on anything.

So he's the new Tory party leader & PM in waiting. Expected to address his party's MPs at 2.30pm.
