Mad Nad and the Boris gang have been holding a rival headbangers conference, splitters.

It does mention it, I see. Though it also talks about the authority of the Pope.
But quite why that should mean that churches were exempt from the law, God knows.

Did the Church of England exist before Henry VIII?

Kruger really sounds like he'd prefer being back in the South Africa of his youth. Good stuff for the enclaves, dump the crap in the townships.

Christ, I'd missed this. Where does this leave the Prime Minister and the Mayor of London? Actually, I think I get it now.

What's the common thread to all this drivel? Luckily philosopher Lee Anderson is on hand to draw it together.
It's..; aspiration. The British Dream. He doesn't just talk in cliches, they're what he actually sees.

Read the comments on Conservative Home under the article. Some shockingly reasonable posts. Pleasantly surprised.

Wow, they don't like it, do they? The only people that do just say "great speech", without further explanation.

Re. Anderson: the American dream is perhaps best summed up with the image of a president's inauguration, and someone saying to their kid, "See that? That could be you one day".
You can't really say that about a coronation.
As for the rest, well, aspiration? Maybe, if you note that aspiring doesn't mean getting. Conservatism is about keeping power in the hands of the right people. It's partly why they love their culture wars, because giving one group power over another makes that first group feel great, and they're yours. Even though their actual power and influence are still nothing.

Some voters despise aspiration, the immigrant who’s been promoted, the work colleague who went it alone and is business doing well, mate from school who got into uni, the retired neighbours who spend the winter in the Algarve, the bloke over the road with the hot wife. No one represents these bitter pricks better than Lee Anderson.

This is still a country where 'clever' is an insult and "Who does he think he is?" gets thrown at anyone who betters themself.

And anyone asking for a more just society is somehow seen as anti-aspiration...

You can’t really say that about the US presidency either, in truth, unless you add . . . as long as you’ve got fifty squillion dollars”.

The American Dream:
- Naive, primitive Christianity
Paranoia about government
'Rugged Individualism' ie selfishness
Frontier mentality
National exceptionalism
Racism
Intolerance of difference
Slavish conformity

Cool. Can he also point us towards the own brand mortgage or rent that’s affordable, the own brand gas and electricity that’s affordable, and the own brand own brand goods that are the same price as they were even 12 months ago before Truss fucked an already shaky economy that was tottering after brexit and the particular brand of cack-handed management of covid we had in the U.K.?
Because saving 22p on a tin of beans is going to make shit-all of a difference if the issue is you only have pennies after covering the essentials - and for some people they don’t even have that.

Who'd have thought you could save money by buying the stores own brands? This is the sort of high level fresh thinking we need from our politicians. They'll be telling us about discount supermarkets next.
Is that Benjy the Bin tabloid guy still going? I reckon he could do a job going through Bren's recycling. If he does any.

Big Bad News at the Grantham Roxy vibes here. I hope they didn't let any dogs in for free.
No wonder Lee's speech didn't sound very inspired. At least Bad News gave it a proper go in Grantham.
