I’m going to go for a different approach - the “Portillo” moment this time, if it happens, won’t be one person. It will be at a certain point in the night as the results come in, and it is clear that this isn’t just ‘bad results’ but that this is the effective end of the Conservative Party. No more big beasts, no more even bigger fish in a smaller pond - there is no pond. There is no deal to be done, no influence, no blocking legislation you don’t like.

They will finally, finally have irrefutable proof that they are all held responsible by the public, that most people no longer believe them, and not only that - that with Labour in power they will *be* held responsible in the legal sense. There will be empowered public inquiries, and investigations, and consequences.

That’s going to be the moment. Not when someone’s personal game is obviously up. But when they realise the *entire* game is up.

I think you might be right. I'll be looking for the first Andrea Jenkyns* moment.

When this bunch of absolute cunts pays the price for what they have put the country through over the last 14 years - all of it - fucking all of it - driven by ideological right wing dogma - from “austerity” to fucking Brexit - , avarice, and rank incompetence.

The extinction of the Conservative Party cannot come soon enough for me.

What makes it all the sweeter is that I'm not seeing any great love for either Starmer or Labour. This isn't 1997 with a brand new vision, a charismatic leader and slick marketing, it's pure hatred for these bastards and how they've ruined the country.

I didn't know the constituency had changed under the boundaries review.

Is the bit of Clwyd South that's been transferred likely to help Williams keep his seat?

Taking Beaconsfield is highly implausible although its probably economically conservative but doesn’t do Brexit and culture war crap like their crank MP.

I'd say the Lib Dems are the likely challengers in Beaconsfield- they gave a free run to Dominic Grieve last time, and would have probably got most of his votes if he hadn't run. It's a madly expensive area, even by South East standards, so probably not too many left-leaners who moved there to avoid London prices. Ed Davey's opposition to VAT on school fees may help him there too.

Have we had Richard Holden yet? Being dumped on the constituency by CCHQ (ie himself) isn't particularly endearing, but I wonder how many people voting will even have heard of the controversy. Perhaps Labour and Reform will tell them.

It's a bit out of my hood, as it were, but I know that both Plaid (it's the bit of the borderland where the language comes closest and even crosses) and Labour (some of it is distinctly post-industrial) think they can pick up votes in the new areas.

There might be bigger shocks, there might be bigger majorities overturned. There might even be bigger names. But the night these corrupt, thieving, lying bastards finally get their comeuppance couldn't possibly be better summed up than if Rees Mogg realises that actions have consequences.
