I doubt that those bastards of Derry Street needed much encouragement but, bearing that in mind too, they will have a full possee running through her bins as we speak.

"Helen McNamara once had lunch with Sue Grey" is probably the extent of that exercise

The Star seem to have been rather on the ball for this morning's paper. Inexplicably, Trumpy Webb didn't mention it in the Today newspaper round-up.

Marina Hyde doesn't disappoint.
As the pandemic approached, then raged, no one – from the prime minister to the cabinet secretary to the health secretary – seems to have realised how bad they, specifically, were at their own jobs.
In terms of what transferable skills the key players have, it’s not immediately clear after Covid’s full spectrum disasterclass. Actually, hang on – everyone from the prime minister to the cabinet secretary to Cummings has the chaotic energy of reality TV contestants.
The government was horrendously incompetent, didn’t have a plan, yet still wasted a huge amount of time – and a tragic number of lives – on mad posturing, pointless turf wars or buck-passing and catastrophic infighting. The sad fact is that all of this was said AT THE TIME, and all of it was denied repeatedly by those in charge.

How utterly insane do you have to be to think GeeBeebies is left-wing?

And more seriously, why is this inquiry not being debated at length throughout the country? What the absolute, total fuck is it going to take to get people angry?

Still say the ICU bit was staged.

How do you gauge and measure widespread anger? Maybe people will be playing ‘Fuckpig, moron or cunt?’ Gavin Williamson is all three.

Hardly scientific, but over the weekend I was discussing the enquiry and the government in general with 2 friends. One is a farmer from Lincolnshire, the other a builder from Nottingham. Both are not particularly political but were very vocally furious with pretty much everything the government had done since March 2020. And yes, they're following the enquiry.

A number of Johnson apologists have been crowing about the fact that there wasn't a shortage of hospital beds during Covid, as many people have pointed out the lack of beds was never an issue the issue was a lack of staff to care for people in hospitals.

You can't expect a classics chap to bother his mind with hard sums.
His mind is on higher things.
How many ships a woman's face can launch?
Can Meudsa petrify you if you only stare at her cleavage?

Those sciency things are for the swots, weeds, cunning foreign chappies and the toiling classes.

This is the healthcare equivalent of those (withdrawn) Nutella ads that claimed it had more vitamin C than an pineapple or something.

Does he mean it’s extraordinary that the cabinet secretary is spilling the beans? If not, shocked that this is Johnson’s MO is only news to Nick Robinson.
