Hearing that Jess has resigned her front bench position in order to vote for the SNP’s shit-stirring amendment calling for an immediate ceasefire in Israel/on the Gaza Strip.

Can’t hide it - I’m a bit disappointed in Jess here. It’s clear to me that her principal motivation in doing this is self-interest. There are lot of muslim Labour voters amongst her constituents, though her majority is a robust 10,659.

I dare say she’ll be back before too long.

Currently people on X are frothing at the mouth because Jess Phillips said Oldham council should hold it's own enquiry.

Here's some paki bashing thrown in.

"Elon Musk has just replied to Liz Truss saying that Jess Phillips deserves to be in prison for rejecting Oldhams request to investigate the grooming gangs. Liz Truss says it’s clear whose side Jess Phillips is on. "

Anything that verifies that transcript? Because "here's the stuff that nobody published, with all the gory details" - well, who's to say it's genuine or not, and lies, truth, circumnavigation, boots etc.

If it's genuine, it's disgusting. But AI generated torture porn?

Edit - a cursory search of Oldham news turns up very little. GB news report local tories disappointment as above, nothing else. Flooding, mainly. Which is ironic.

It's from a trial from Oxford. It's whats caused a sudden interest in this as People have suddenly realised this took place including Americans.

Any of them mentioning that the trial took place in 2013, the offences between 2010 and 2013, and that all the men involved were given life sentences?

As we don't have the death penalty over here, you can't lock people up preemptively, and lynching is illegal,. it's hard to see what more could be don....

...yeah.

Awful as it is, this looks to me like justice was done. Everything else is lynch mob fantasy by far right dickheads.

If you read the posted report of the Oxford case, it details the sentencing including the dates of the offences and the trial.

I'm not sure how a criminal case can be tried without detailing the offences committed, that seems integral to ensuring justice is served as without it judge and jury literally don't know what they are judging.

Looks like Musk is now the leader of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition.

https://nation.cymru/news/kemi-badenoch ... s-scandal/
Kemi Badenoch has called for a national inquiry into the UK’s “rape gangs scandal”, after Elon Musk hit out at Sir Keir Starmer over the issue.

The Conservative Party leader made the call in a post to X on Thursday, arguing that “2025 must be the year that the victims start to get justice”.

This comes after US billionaire Mr Musk appeared to place blame at the Prime Minister’s door, as he argued that “rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice” during Sir Keir’s time as Director of Public Prosecutions.

We should be used to it by now but the relentless levels of abuse from the massed ranks of right wing media towards Starmer, Khan, Philips and Reeves is quite incredible. And now they've got Musk with them, it's utterly depressing.

'Justice' is a nefarious concept. We've had inquiries, convictions and sentences. Laws have been introduced and attitudes changed. What else can happen - surely not kompensashun?

Yes...the point I was trying to make was that this is something that awful as it is, happened 12 years ago and reached - as much as can be said in the circumstances - a satisfactory conclusion. They were busted, they were tried, they were sentenced.

And now it's being used to try to whip up lynch mobs. Fucking wonderful.

You criticised the judge's report which you described as "torture porn". I'm wondering how the judge was supposed to summarises the case and justify his various sentencing decisions without describing the offences committed?

I questioned whether anyone had confirmed the transcript as genuine. Having had some experience of AI over the last 18 months, I thought that given the content, I'd not have put it past being AI - Poe's law and all that. Later, as in passage of time, I had the opportunity to do so and confirmed that it was a genuine passage from the 2013 transcript. Rather than be a cunt and go back and edit my previous comment, like a cunt might do, I posted that while I was happy - as much as anyone with no personal connection to the case, save in notions of shared humanity, can be - with the outcome, I was disappointed that a 12 year old case was being used as a stick to beat Phillips, Starmer and so on.

Fuck's sake.

Musk seems to embody the absolute vacuity of social media politics superbly well.

It's absolutely immaterial what has happened, past a certain point. It's irrelevant that that someone was sentenced before, because They are doing it again and Now there is a problem and They are to blame and and and.

If one actually had an interest in making things better, one might wonder if this was the best tool. Ho-hum.

I'm glad to see that Boris Johnson is trending on Twitter because somebody has posted the clip of him saying that spending the police budget on historical child abuse 'is spaffing money up the wall.'
