I might have missed it, and I know that Trump disgracefully referred to the 1500-odd 6 January violent criminal rioters to whom he issued free pardons and let out of gaol as "hostages", but was he ever asked to, or did he ever explain his "rationale" for doing so ? Because as far as I can see, there just isn't one.

That's the joy of a 200+ year-old constitution written for a set of circumstances so very far removed from the present day - you don't need to give a reason. You are assumed to be a gentleman who would always act with honour.

Don't think the President is expected to justify pardons. But the Justice Department is supposed to explain why it's dropping investigations. I think it's just dropped a couple of them (coincidientally v Trump allies) and not explained it. I think even Jeff Sessions would have felt he needed to explain and stuck something out after a month. But this is by degrees more corrupt.

The use of the word "hostages" was to tie in with the Israeli hostages which were the other leading news story that day. Because convicted insurrectionists in US prisons are exactly the same as prisoners of Hamas whose only crime is being Jewish.

My reading of his "pardons" is based on how every charge against him is part of a witch-hunt lead by a corrupt legal system, he is just using them to reflect his own narrative.

These people are beyond degenerate. There is no doubt in my mind that they game-played how they could grasp at a potential advantage this morning, long before the last bodies were recovered from the Potomac.

I have no doubt at all that any DEI recruitment initiatives deployed by the Federal Aviation Authority will have had no bearing whatsoever on the calibre, abilities or competencies of any of the air traffic controllers recruited, trained, or employed by that authority. There is not even a scintilla of a hint that human error on the part of an air traffic controller can be proven to have been a contributory factor in causing this accident.
