I remember that, just after I relocated to this town, a helluva blow came barrelling through and felled our posh, new main railway station. That was embarrassing.

February three years ago, same same. That evening, I drove up the Avus from Potsdam, watching proud oaks and ash trees going down like skittles. That was heart-breaking.

And here we are again;

In the evening and early on Friday night, the wind will continue to increase and reach gusts between 90 and 110 km/h, in some places gale-force winds of around 120 km/h from westerly directions cannot be ruled out.
Today has already been a bit bonkers out there, but I was rather looking forward to going to the footie tomorrow evening. The walk from the S-Bahn to the stadium is through a wooded copse which I can hardly do anyway at the moment, and I am certainly not up for shimmying my way around flying boughs. That leaves getting a rental scooter which I can leave there while enjoying a beer or four during the game. (The walk back to the S-Bahn is somewhat easier with half a gallon on board.)

Who in their right mind, however, would be riding a 50cc equivalent, electric scooter in 110 km/h cross winds which are presumably going to be gusting much higher and are then full of holes?

I am seriously considering mitigating these manifestations of climate change by chumming up the Kreuzette at the sauna, instead. I would rather go to the football, though but.

Having a very large tree at the edge of my garden and a chimney of dubious integrity I am, to put it mildly, fucking bricking it about tomorrow. I am dreading going to work in the morning and coming home in the evening to find that the wind has toppled the tree into the house, the chimney has come down, or both.

One instance where I just cannot separate hypothetical from practical worry.

Best of luck; we should be fine as our trees are a distance from the house but things like slates and chimney pots are a constant worry. .

While advising people to stay at home, the tv news companies have done their favourite thing of sending reporters and camera staff to the coast. They are often as close to the edge as possible., while tut-tuttimg at other people further along who are also as close to the edge as possible.

To paraphrase Peter Venkman*, "Back off, man. I'm a journalist."

*Character from the popular 1984 film "Ghostbusters", m'lud. What do you mean, you've never seen it? It's 38 years old for goodness' sake!

I note a lot of the Facebook and Twitter epidemiologists appear to be meteorologists as well.

Is there nothing they can't do?

Except to shut the fuck up.

Zephyrus appears quite wrathful today, I am in desperate hope that some parts of my dad's house will remain standing this time tomorrow.

Well, we actually had Dick Teenyweeny speculating that Storm Malik was a tribute to Art Malik on the grounds that, like every sodding actor working in the UK during the 70s or 80s, he was in an episode of Sweeney, or The Minder.

Three ridge tiles down.

Time for Bob, Midge and the lads to get the band back together.

So, high tide was 8am and, whilst there were waves, I’ve seen higher several times.
So, we’ve dodged the floods.

It’s pretty windy but not so much as a runaway wheelie bin yet, peak wind was due at 11am.

I hear that a lorry blew over on the M5 this morning but that is raised and exposed and empty lorries blow over fairly frequently.

The wind is too strong for the magnet on the catflap* which is flapping with an annoying squeak. #prayforweston
* I initially omitted the “flap” part from the word “catflap”, which would have made a far more interesting sentence - I probably should have left it.

BREAKING NEWS:
A duvet has just made landfall in the back garden. I wonder how far it has travelled?

It's bloody windy here. I like it. It's not every Friday I get to go home at half past eight. Left home at 0630, arrived back at 0905. Those are my kind of working days.

I've also been glued to this livestream of planes attempting to land at Heathrow today:

Noticeably a big Qatar Airways jet with 4 engines didn't fancy the landing two or three times and diverted to Gatwick for an easier time. Gulp

Planes not being to land because of bit of winter weather? Bloody woke pilots.

I have been offered the possibility of an early bath but in all honesty I think I'll sit this out.
