Yeah, and there seems to have been another motion where the US voted on the same side as the EU mainstream, though I might be wrong. I always find different motions confusing.

I believe this was the motion

That's the more striking vote, but think there's another vote.

It's entirely possible that they will wrap the UN session for the day, and everyone will shuffle out saying, "So, those Yanks are not venal cunts, after all."

Well, maybe not entirely.

This sounds a bit hopeful. See also, "Bullies always leave you alone if you stand up to them". I missed the episode of Grange Hill where Roland turned Gripper into the Cowardly Lion.

Britain’s Atlanticist establishment is still in a grief stricken state of denial that their husband has left them for a trashy slut. ‘If I make Donald his favourite steak and kidney pie he’ll be back through the door this evening.’

The biggest Atlanticist of them all, Merz, didn't wait for the ink to dry on the ballot papers before he told Trump and his menagerie to grow up or go fuck themselves.

It's both a bold move and, in a normal world, it provides air-cover for Starmer on Thursday. But that is three days hence -a long time in Trumplandia, by which time he might have invaded New Zealand or Newton Aycliffe.

As someone said the other day, someone is going to have to play the “can you talk to this idiot for us?” role, however much extra European defence spending and integration actually happens. Might as well be the UK, and see no sign anyone else is unhappy with it.

The problem with that being all previous presidents haven't been Trump. Well, one has but you get the drift.

They've cut international aid to fund defence. Cue outrage.

I think this could have been a good opportunity to say there would have to be some movement on tax. If not to prevent the cuts to overseas aid, they could have at least softened the blow a little.

The home-based kids, the cripples, and the billionaires can breathe a sigh of relief. Overseas, not so much - except the billionaires, they'll be fine.

This is a quick fix ahead of the Trump meeting. Would be surprised if taxes didn't need to rise somewhere later. Might have been an idea to do it sooner rather than later, but maybe they think they'll turn into Francois Hollande if they do that.
