In any case, Ed Davey's opposed tax on very expensive farms and school fees.

Yep. This'll get the usual "why can we afford bombs?" bollocks but it's the right thing to do.

There's a narrative there, if ever we could get a fair hearing, that the Tories cut the size of the state (via cutting taxes especially for the wealthy) to the point that many of the state's most serious responsibilities were unsustainable, and now we have to put that right.

That would work for the NHS as well as defence.

The trouble is that there's a big chunk of people, like there were back in the 70s80s who don't think that Defence is a core function of the state.

As Tubbs has pointed out other countries do this as well. So no it isn't fake fascism.

Honestly I tend to find that people on Bluesky are a lot more hostile to the government than I had hoped.
