Very reminiscent of Danny DeVito's character in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia protesting a little too much that he's absolutely not into diddling kids.

Another one of Trump's "good people" gets himself arrested for being a good person:

US Capitol Police have arrested a man with a bayonet and machete near the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington DC.

The suspect was found two blocks from the Capitol building in a vehicle with swastikas and other extremist symbols painted on it.

When stopped, the man claimed to be "on patrol" and began talking about white supremacist ideology, police allege.

The incident comes amid fears of unrest at an upcoming right-wing rally.

In a statement released on Monday, Capitol Police said that Donald Craighead, a 44-year-old from California, was pulled over after officers noticed the extremist symbols on his truck and a painting of an American flag in place of a number plate.

Officers then noticed multiple knives, including a bayonet and a machete - both of which are illegal in Washington DC - inside the vehicle.

Mr Craighead has been charged with possession of prohibited weapons. It was not immediately clear how Mr Craighead intends to plea or whether he has acquired an attorney.

"This is good police work, plain and simple," said US Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger.

The arrest comes as local authorities prepare for potential violence at the so-called Justice for J6 rally, planned for 18 September by the Look Ahead America group.

The organisers say it is aimed at supporting those arrested for taking part in the Capitol riots on 6 January...

Stopping a vehicle daubed with swastikas is the lowest, loosest definition of "good police work" I can think of

Sounds like Gavin Newsom has successfully fought off a recall vote.

The GOP were already screaming about voter fraud days ago (it seems to be their new shibboleth), and had opened their reporting web site before the vote even started.

I suspect the vote is just the beginning.

Big overreach by the GOP. The work the Democrats have done here may help them get a couple of districts back in the Mid Terms.

Yeah although if you looking at the coverage in some quarters you'd think the Dems had suffered a defeat.

The California recall election was a good, old-fashioned ass whooping. Democrats came out in droves to deliver a decisive two-to-one victory for Governor Gavin Newsom, and Democrats aren't always great about turning out in elections that aren't branded “hope and change" or set to the tune of Fleetwood Mac.

Republicans were hoping for their own Alabama upset: In the 2017 Senate special election, Democrat Doug Jones defeated Donald Trump-endorsed Roy Moore in a state Trump had carried by 28 points just a year earlier. (You may remember, Roy Moore had some girl-shaped issues.) That didn't happen, and it's flummoxed the mainstream media, which normally covers politics from the perspective of "Heads Republicans win; tails Democrats lose." However, Newsom's triumph has upset their game of Calvinball.

Not long after the race was called, Kasie Hunt, whom CNN pays to discuss politics, explained to us amateurs why the seemingly positive results actually spelled doom for the Democratic Party. She tweeted:

Quite the tweets from Kasie Hunt.

Yeah, bloody Biden. Not getting Covid under control in Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia.

That analysis is truly eye rollingly bad.

Yep.

Nice sighting of "Democrats need to govern for all" too. Republicans famously do that.

A thread showing just how wrong many pundits were about this race.

The Guardian were lucky not to get included on there. I fell for their stuff until you pointed out it was rubbish.

Reminds me of recent football commentary in the Champion's League. All about Ronaldo, Messi, and other assorted superstars over and over and ovvverrrrrr again.

Whilst, you know, football matches are played and other players do good work and hey, look, Man Utd lost and PSG drew, harrr harrr.

It was like The Times' commentary on Short v Kasparov back in the day. Short's brilliant opening left Kasparov floundering until he won.

Early voting has started in Virginia (which unusually holds elections in odd number years). Democrat candidate for Governor has warmed to the task of tying the Republican candidate to the Texas abortion law and Donald Trump.

Democrats ought to win this, but Kasie Hunt is a tough crowd and polls have shown a competitive race.

Also elections coming up in New Jersey. Are the electorate coastal city elites or real Americans? Depends who they vote for.

Polls fairly tight, but the Democrat governor ought to win re-election. Last Republican governor's team were caught engineering traffic jams to get back at a political opponent.

The polls have shown Terry Mcaullife (D) with a solid lead at least the ones I've seen.

Some of you might have noted that this time last week, while Biden along with Obama, Dubya Bush & Clinton went to mark 20th anniversary events for the 11th September attacks in the US, Tr*mp decided to concentrate instead on providing commentary for an exhibition PPV boxing match that involved Evander Holyfield.

Narrator's Voice: "It was not a great success"
