We've been there before, but it's worth a repeat.
The UK has a lot of loopholes - put there by good chaps, for god chaps; or those who can afford the services of a good chap.
If, by mischance, you do get caught overstepping the mark, the worst case is a repayment.
The US also has loopholes, some because "we always did it like that" and some achieved through aggressive lobbying.
But if you're caught short changing Uncle Sam, or a big US corporation, that means time in the joint.

Often iin the LARP community, we argue that most legal systems can be boiled down to 2 or 3 rules:
1. Don't get caught.
2. [Group member] don't fuck over [group member].
3. Don't take the piss.
3A. Unless it's funny.
Tax evasion is very much the Americans' Rule 3.

The convolutions of the US tax system are so baked in that any attempt to reverse them will be met with stiff lobbying resistance from the entire ecosystem of businesses that exist solely so people can negotiate the labyrinth.

One American wit suggested a simplified tax form:
1. How much money did you make last year?
2. Send it in.

Like US food labelling, you need a PHD in chemistry to decipher the info. Currently banishing salt and refined sugars from my diet and so pay attention to what I buy. The traffic light labels are great and even without them the per 100g guide is very simple.

That’s gotta have him sweating. A plea bargain from someone that close could have real teeth.

With Trump increasingly looking screwed and Biden not looking like the sharpest tool in the shed who will be the two presidential candidates in 2024? I'm starting to think that somebody like Antony Blinken could well end up being the Democrats choice particularly if he is instrumental in avoiding an all out war in the Middle East. As for the Republicans it is much harder to call.

Trouble with the Republicans, there’s too many egos jostling for position, trying to woo so many factions; one day need to keep on the right side of the NRA, then the next it’s the fundamentalist Christians, and then the next day it’s the Klan. No wonder the majority of the population get bypassed

Shouldn't be too difficult. There's a massive overlap on that particular Venn diagram.

Trump’s pushed his luck to the limit, it seems. And given his inability to stick to rules, I think there’s a genuine chance he’ll go too far.

Lying orange shitgibbon tells yet more lies
Donald Trump claimed Sidney Powell was “never” his attorney in a social media post Sunday, three days after she pleaded guilty in the Georgia election subversion case.
Despite Trump’s claims, Powell was briefly an official member of Trump’s legal team in 2020, and Trump stayed in contact with her on election-related matters even after she was ousted from his campaign.

He's totally fucking delusional. His only hope is to be found mentally unfit to stand trial.

It doesn't matter. He won't be going to jail, he will still he the Republican presidential candidate and there's still a very strong possibility that he will be the next president. And if that happens he'll go on a revenge wrecking spree the likes of which we've never seen.

Indeed - it'll make what the Tory fuckers are doing to this country look like a dolls tea party.

The judge will have a fair bit of discretion on sentencing. Given the shape he's in (no kind of shape at all) I think there's a chance that the judge uses it to send him down.

And risk a full-blown riot inside and outside the courthouse?

Can you imagine what would happen if a judge tried to send Trump down? Nah, isn't happening.

The judge would probably need serious protection, but there'd be considerable personal satisfaction and a place in the history books. Plenty of judges would take that one.
That it's gone as far as it has already is quite something. Let him off with probation and it's basically wasted.

You do wish they'd just stop fucking about, convict the bastard, and have done with it. It's absolutely fucking crazy that a man like Trump should be free to run for president in a mature democracy like the USA.

He's totally fucking thick is what he is. If she wasn't his attorney then she is not bound by client confidentiality which means she has to answer all the court's questions. Who the hell is advising him?
