It speaks volumes about the direction of British politics that, as a general election looms, their job is finding more ways to promise nothing.

This is wrong, the Tories are still promising the Brexit Moon on a stick.

Yeah, about that....

https://zelo-street.blogspot.com/2023/0 ... y.html?m=1
As the BBC reported at the time, “In the case of Tata's new [EV battery] plant, the UK's expected success has not been easily or cheaply won … The government has said that while it does not recognise a figure of £500m in reported subsidies, they concede that it is in the hundreds of millions of pounds”.

Do go on. “This would take the form of cash grants, energy subsidies and other training and research funding … India’s Tata has extensive steel interests in the UK including the Port Talbot plant in South Wales and the government will also offer around £300m to subsidise, upgrade, and decarbonise those operations … Along with additional energy discounts, it will bring the total incentive package to Tata close to £800m”. Ker-Ching!

Another day in the life of the UK.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... de-conduct

Publishing the conclusions of his investigation on Wednesday, Greenberg said Sunak should have declared the shareholding when being questioned on the policy by the liaison committee of senior crossbench MPs on 28 March. But he said he was satisfied that the prime minister had confused the rules on registering and declaring interests.

Parliament’s commissioner for standards said: “Having considered the information available to me, I have decided that the breach of the code appears to have been inadvertent. I confirm that the matter is now closed.”

Labour to attack PM on economy after focus groups ‘irritated’ by his optimism
Exclusive: party says potential Tory-to-Labour switchers do not feel better off and find Sunak’s attitude ‘grating’
This makes a certain amount of tactical sense. Sunak isn't John Major in 1992.

Do the focus group know who the chancellor is? Jeremy Hunt is even more punchable for similar reasons.

Hunt can be kept out of the way in the campaign (if he's not be ditched for somebody like Penny Mordaunt by then). Hard to keep the PM out of the way like that.

Whilst all eyes are on that bitter old harridan:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... rade-talks

Rishi Sunak faces a new conflict of interest row before a G20 summit in New Delhi next month over claims that his family could stand to benefit financially from a post-Brexit trade deal that he is negotiating with India.

MPs and trade experts say there are concerns at the highest levels of government over potential “transparency” issues relating to his wife Akshata Murty’s shareholding – worth almost £500m – in the massive Bengaluru-based international IT services and consultancy company Infosys.

Labour, and the chair of the all-party House of Commons business and trade select committee, called on Saturday night for Sunak to be more open about his wife’s financial interests, given that Infosys could be a key beneficiary of any agreement. One leading expert said he should recuse himself from the trade negotiations altogether.
Infosys, which has had contracts with the British government as well as many UK companies, is known to want to improve access to this country for its many thousands of contract workers through changes to the UK visa regime.

Allowing more visas for its workers in sectors such as IT and artificial intelligence is a key Indian demand in the talks over a free-trade agreement. The UK, for its part, is seeking reductions in the high tariffs on exports to India of goods including Scotch whisky and cars.

It's the Tory way. If you're not going to use your position to enrich yourself you might as well not bother going into politics at all.

This is becoming almost a daily occurrence; Sunak doing something, usually "inadvertently", which sees vast amounts of cash flowing in the direction of his missus.

He is making Johnson, with his 800,000 quid loan, look like small fry. This is Trumpian in its extent and scale.

I believe I predicted a massive Infosys related deal.

Any figure reported in our press will neglect the substantial "agent's fees" that Indian candidates will pay to Infosys or their subsidiaries to get in on the deal.

Why would India do that when the UK will sign whatever deal it’s presented with?

Why don’t Labour make more of Sunak’s corruption? Tories would, they’re even still banging on about Liam Byrne’s note ffs.

Yebbut, seen elsewhere...
So never mind that Infosys are just one of many companies in the sector, owned from a range of locations, that do billions’ worth of trade each year?
So that's okay then.

Good question. Maybe it would make Sunak look too much like an evil genius?

More like it would be met with a shrug and "They're all at it."

You only have to look BTL at the Mail to see that this is the general consensus of the Branes Trust, who then implore you to "vote REFORM".

It must be a cinch to counter that on the doorstep.

Pictures of Mone in her cozzy, a weary Dido Harding, and that cunt with the toasty stables and whose name mercifully escapes me. Then another photo of the 1000 GBP which would otherwise have been in their own bank account.

"Spot the thieving Tory."
