]Robert F Kennedy assassin Sirhan Sirhan recommended for parole

He'll probably spend most of his time left being interviewed by conspiracy related TV documentary makers.

Interesting to compare this with the case of say, Mark Chapman. Chapman murdered John Lennon 41 years ago and in normal circumstances could have expected to have been released on parole well before now. But, like Sirhan Sirhan, he realistically still has no hope of release. Both murderers’ life sentences are in essence “ political” in the sense that the public backlash to either or both being released, in terms of public outrage, but also in terms of both men’s personal safety, would simply be unconscionable. So expect whoever the state governor is to continue to deny Sirhan release, and Chapman to keep on having his parole applications turned down.

Chapman wouldn't survive a week, I suspect.

As I understood it, Sirhan'd already been approved for parole, with the support of some of RFK's children. It's a gubernatorial decision now.

Can you spell Dystopia? It's easy if you try.

The comments are the sound of the proud boys expending their one monthly "release".

Supporters of the Capitol riot defendants are reportedly planning a large demonstration in DC later this month.

Groundhog day?
What could possibly go wrong?

Following the disgusting new abortion law in Gilead, sorry, I mean Texas coming into force, I've been battling away with pro-life fuckloons on Twitter. As I may have said here before, the one thing that annoys me beyond all else in this debate is the way a woman is often portrayed as treating the decision to have an abortion as a trivial one: "Oh darn, I'm pregnant. Well, off to the clinic - could do that before I go to Asda" whereas the truth is it is an agonising decision, not one taken on a whim. Not only that, as I know, women can then wonder for decades afterwards whether or not they did the right thing.

Then you get the pricks who in one breath say that they should not be forced to wear a mask - their body, their choice, but have no problem telling a woman what she must do. I do tend to ask these pro-lifers on their stance on gun control or masks when they come out with the "protecting the innocent" line - and more often than not get no response. Similarly, it strikes me that the vast majority of these people will be meat eaters. So, wasn't poor old Daisy innocent when she went off to the abbatoir to become your burger? And you could argue that she'd be a damned sight more sentinent and aware of things then the small cluster of cells that is a six week old fetus.

With these religious apologists I often say “if your god loves babies, why does he let them be stillborn”

Why also do they cease to give a fuck about them the minute they are born?

Wasn't there a meme of a new-born having its umbilical cord cut with the words "The moment Republicans stop caring about a child"?

I think this has been posted on Mailwatch before, but it's worth repeating it. Quoted in full.

"Really great quote from a United Methodist pastor:"

""The unborn" are a convenient group of people to advocate for.

They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don't resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don't ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don't need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don't bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn.

It's almost as if, by being born, they have died to you. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus but actually dislike people who breathe.

Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn."

It's about control, always has been. Specifically, white men controlling others because no matter what legislation is passed or what social changes take place, it'll be the white men holding the nightstick. No matter how successful or rich or famous you are as a woman or a BAME person, one white man with a little bit of authority can make your life hell, if they choose.

Once again, proof that America is less about liberating the poor huddled masses, and more about giving them the opportunity to do some oppression of their own.

Unless a bunch of dickhead hard left Democrats haven't voted to recall, it should be OK. Tough Covid situation in California, but Newsom has got it under better control than lots of other states.
Er, I've just noticed the date. This is from 2020. Ignore me.

I can't ser this going down particularly well among certain sections of US society...

The Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off professional American football's first game of the season. But before they did, fans heard something a little different.

It started as a song to celebrate the president who emancipated America's slaves. Its writer thought little about it afterwards, but it took on a life of its own.

Now "Lift Every Voice and Sing" - a ballad widely known today as the US black national anthem - has been played at the opening game of the National Football League's (NFL) 2021 season.

The song was played after a year of racial tumult that touched almost every corner of American society, including professional sports.

Male professional leagues are dominated by young black men, and in an effort to show more solidarity with players, the NFL said it would play "Lift Every Voice and Sing" at the beginning of games this season. It's the first time the song that has meant so much to so many will regularly open American professional sports games...
