Nice article in the Independent saying that despite its claims that it will be for good news and the voices of the average person, it's so far been lots of already high profile people, and lots of negativity. And that if you want the average punter, 5 Live, LBC, and Gogglebox are all better bets.

One commentator down already. Whoever could've predicted that the atmosphere on an explicitly right-wing news channel with section titles like Woke Watch might be like this?

India Willoughby sensationally quits GB News, accusing channel of ‘opening the gates of hell’ for trans people

India Willoughby has refused to return as a commentator on GB News, accusing the news channel of “demonising trans people at every opportunity”.

Willoughby recently agreed to appear on the controversial news channel GB News as a commentator, appearing weekly on the panel of Tonight Live with Dan Wootton on Sunday nights.

GB News, which launched this month, was the first UK news channel to be set up with an explicit political leaning, according to the BBC, and it was something that appealed to Willoughby.

As a “patriotic” person with “right of centre” political views, she told PinkNews: “I was really looking forward to doing it… I thought it was going to be a breath of fresh air. I like debates.”

But the reality was not what she expected.

“It’s a monster,” she said. “It’s an absolute nightmare… For people like me, it’s opened the gates of hell.”

Although it only launched earlier this month, GB News has already platformed anti-trans voices like the LGB Alliance and Maya Forstater.

“I was really disappointed in the first week when I saw they were demonising trans people at every opportunity,” Willoughby said.

It's getting to be like the time newly-elected BNP councillors hadn't previously realised that their party was racist.

Someone else clearly not going to be invited back.

Also, look at the strapline question.

As far as India Willoughby is concerned, she fell into the age-old trap with right-wingers of assuming you were safe because you were a fellow traveller in some areas, whereas at best all they ever do is make allowances or accommodate people because it's useful to them.

What GB news mean by "freedom of speech" is, anyone not white, straight and male will at some point become a viable target. Priti Patel, for example, is one of the most bigoted, charmless and authoritarian ministers ever. But as the female child of immigrants (and immigrants who have dared to not come from caucasian stock) she would last all of 0.001 seconds if Johnson (or some later replacement) went full Trump.

I think the more Trumpy Johnson becomes, the more useful Patel is to him. Trump got a small swing towards him among Black voters, I think. He might have got more if he weren't relying on Diamond and Silks as his top Black supporters.

No source given for ‘nearly half of Leave voters’ but that’s not an issue for GBNews. I’ve seen no evidence that as many as half regret their decision to Leave.

Just saw it live on tv for the first time. It looks almost as cheap as Democracy Now.

Yeah, I think that could be a set up. Get defiant Brexiters calling in, "these so-called experts are having a laugh" etc.

Andrew Neil's done a bunk already...temporarily of course. Though it's not a good look if your main draw disappears after just a couple of weeks and I don't think it was because he had some holiday pre-booked either.

Reports on Twitter that he may have 'health issues'.

Sick as a dog, I imagine...

Thurlbeck is concerned by falling journalistic standards or bitter because he didn’t get shortlisted for GBNews?

Neil is 72 and doesn't look the most healthy. We don't know how much he's doing as Chairman, but being the main presenter is probably tiring enough.

I would image being the object of ridicule doesn't come easily to someone who has always been in a position of power and having the upper hand.

If Neil really doesn't like being laughed at, I can only assume all the mirrors in his house inexplicably stop at eyebrow height.

I think this might go some way towards explaining Andrew Neil's urgent need of 'a holiday'.
