Wot Mr Kev sez. That's truer than a very true thing, that is.

I know I'll never suffer from manflu ever again.

I've had flu at least twice in my life - the first was in the epidemic in about 1974 or 1975 when my class at junior school was down to about eight pupils. From that I remembered the uselessness of my arms and legs more than anything else. Second time was after my honeymoon.

I used to get annoyed with a former colleague who often complained of "a touch of flu" - I mentioned the old test of if you saw a tenner lying by your bed that with flu, you wouldn't be able to pick it up.

But not "Big" Merv Shields, sometime bassist with shitcunt collective Skrewdriver, and one of the bigger hands in running the "Blood And Honour" music label. He dismissed COVID as fake, a "lefty, Jewish plot".

As it turned out, it wasn't, and 80-odd percent of his body mass became a faint puff out the chimneys of Roselawn Crematorium some time last week. It remains to be seen if he'll be collected in an urn, or find his way into a different, smaller kind of plot, as his funeral was unattended.

Personal Covid request here.

Me and my parents are flying to the US on 16 Feb. Can somebody tell me, in simple terms what I have to do about Covid testing? I keep looking at internet stuff and not taking it in. Can someone explain it, rather than just putting up a link?

From what I can see, Tubbs:
If you are a non-U.S. citizen who is a nonimmigrant (not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or traveling to the United States on an immigrant visa), you will need to show proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before you travel by air to the United States from a foreign country.

At this time, all air passengers ages 2 or older, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, must show a negative result of a COVID-19 viral test or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States.
They will accept the NHS "passport" and it looks like LFTs are acceptable.

That's from the CDC website.

The UK Government website adds:
The USA will accept the UK’s proof of COVID-19 recovery and vaccination record
So it would seem if y'all do an LFT the day before you travel, all is okay. Make sure you get a text message from the NHS when you do this, or an e-mail.

I'd have hoped whomsoever you bought your plane tickets from could answer this though?

Thank you.

Apologies for another silly question- how do I get an LFT test?

Apply online or from a test centre - we have got our from both sources.

Follow the link, Tubbs.

https://maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/

You'll need to provide a chemists/pharmacy with a collection code and they'll usually give you two boxes of seven tests.

Collection codes - https://test-for-coronavirus.service.go ... -flow-kits

I read that weeks ago, but didn't bother mentioning it here because it's the opinion of one man who has a book on the subject coming out soon. Ok, he's a man who has expert knowledge in this field, but his is still a lone voice - I haven't heard of any of his peers speaking in support.

Didn’t Sweden do that… and didn’t it end up flawed.

No no, Sweden got it absolutely right and is the perfect example of how to do it.

Presumably we went into lockdown when we did because the government knew that without a lockdown the NHS would have collapsed under the strain of Covid. May be if we had been better prepared for a pandemic with large supplies of PPE and plenty of spare capacity in the NHS alternative approaches could have been tried.

Certainly more could have been done to reduce the impact that the lockdown had on educations. Many schools will have saved large amounts of money during lockdown because very few schools used supply teachers during lockdown, money would also have been saved on exercise books and photocopying. If this money had been used to buy netbooks for all the kids who could not access on-line learning.

I already get stared at for wearing an FFP2 mask: goodness knows what it'll be like in a few weeks' time when I have continued to do so.

Maybe I need an anti-sunflower lanyard.

Have you got your LF tests yet, @Tubby Isaacs ?
