It's not run to make money, but to get a foot in the door. As Eve Pollard said about owning newspapers, you spend a shedload of money to buy influence, not to make a profit.
GBN has its foot in the door. Anything said on the channel has a veneer of legitimacy as it's coming from a "proper" channel, so can be reported by other outlets. All about normalising its content.

You’re obviously not his mate.
“It’s really interesting and Ian has taken a stand there where he is standing up for his mate.
“What’s really interesting is that, if you go back three years and look at the reaction Ian Wright had to the sacking of myself, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas.
“You will see that reaction is completely contradictory to how he reacted to this.
“It’s all very well taking this stand, but let’s show a bit of consistency in this Wrighty.”

Even if you think what I said was a load of dangerous tinfoil hattery bollocks, you should support me.

Thompson and Nicholas were standard showbiz “shelf life” sackings. I think Le Tissier was sacked for going mad. Not like the Lineker case.

Sky was committed to increasing diversity in the commenting team, and reducing fuckwittedness (Le Tishoo).

It’s likely the government made a phone call to have Lineker fired, so this is going to rumble on.
That’s cleared that one up, Matt.

I joined the Gammon & Brexit News group on the Fleecebook, and it’s been an education, especially the comments. What I’ve noticed is that there is a definite tribal mentality, and an orthodoxy of thought that entails much raging against “the Wokes” (who are of course the enemy). They all know the fucking script.
Vishnu on a velocipede, these people are thick. And thick and hateful is a disgusting and dangerous combination. I do my share of trolling, poking them with a stick, and baiting them, but there’s only so much a chap can do.
Come and join us, if you like.

I spent about ten years trolling EDL groups on FB, it was soul destroying, I was quite relieved once they'd finally banned me in all my various incarnations. I expect the Gammon and Brexit groups contain many of the same people.
I don't know if I've got the energy to enter that circus again.

For years my missus tried to take on a local FB group formed by the same sort of people - angry, embittered, self pitying, low educational achievements- utterly absorbed with seething resentment about other people they consider their inferiors being treated as their equals or worse, being treated more favourably. As she's discovered over the years, no one ever changed their mind when 'arguing' with someone on the Internet. It made her irritable and depressed and thankfully she rarely, if ever, bothers these days. Meanwhile, they're still there, still seething, still embittered etc.

And all the while, I should have added, whilst being cynically, endlessly exploited by the likes of GB news, the Mail etc. and every cynical, hateful right-wing hack who they quote endlessly but who wouldn't dream of setting foot in the places these people live.

You must have noticed how deflated the nativists have become. They don’t have much stomach for the Tory deregulation agenda as they were too dim and myopic to have seen that one coming). As for showing the rising immigration figures since Brexit, that usually silences them.
Suggesting some practical ideas to tackle illegal immigration like ID cards will also be met with silence as they not prepared to walk the walk if it means a minor inconvenience on them.

Is there any demand for David Starkey’s views on women’s rights?

Latest piece of idiotic orthodoxy: The rise in viewing figures of several thousand for Match of the Day on Saturday night - limited to 20 minutes and sans Lineker, pundits, commentary or the iconic theme music is explained because the programme is better that way.
It had nothing whatsoever to do with the massive publicity the programme had been at the centre of for the preceding week, or the extra numbers of viewers tuning in curious just to see how crap it'd be without Lineker, pundits, etc, etc.
Fuckwits were seriously trying to argue this. Un. Be. Lieve. Able.

Not much you can do to refute their claims even with an armful of viewer research stats. All a bit ‘Gary smells of poo.’

Yep, Sunday morning I viewed part of MOTD for the first time in over 40 years.
Out of curiosity.
I wasn't the only one.

Apologies, I'd have responded sooner.
