"Pretty much we are all back at work, because I think that's what we need to be in our particular industry," he says. "Obviously it varies from industry to industry, but in financial services it's more important to be in the office because its a very live industry".

No explanation as to what he’s getting at. Do they have to shout and woop at each other?

Apart from undertakers, I feel most industries are "live" ones

The idea is seemingly that by moving to a font designed in-house, they won't be paying for a licence to use Gill Sans.
Great typographer, toilet of a human, whatevs.

I actually prefer the new logo, tbh. Those bottom-heavy fonts grind my gears. The tail on the Arial R <spit> is a particular bugbear and another reason why this forum is in Lato.

I use Gill Sans MT for everything. I love it. It's a funny thing...

It's used as the header/footer on my company correspondence and invoices, but I use Bodoni for body text. Gives it a nice old-fashioned feel.

I understand Gill caused some consternation when he was carving Ariel and Prospero onto Broadcasting House as he refused to wear undergarments under his artist's smock...

@kreuzberger - is Lato what I used to call a "dynamic font" on this site, as in you don't need it on your computer/phone for it to be displayed correctly?

A "dynamic font " is not a term I know. Lato is a Google font which is part of the firm's project to not consciously make the internet stink of gusset juice. You call it from the top of the CSS file.
Code: Select all
@import url('https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Lato&display=swap');
.wossname {
nouns: adjectives;
}

...if anyone is interested.

Depends whose gusset, surely?

"Whose Gusset?", hmm, with a little work I could pitch that as a game show. Anyone got contacts at Channel 5?

50k is relatively cheap for a logo change.

My university spent 350k on a logo change (despite having one of the best graphic design departments in the country, and a general feeling amongst the student body that it would be a great boon to have that in their portfolio). The logo went from something a bit underwhelming but geographically and culturally connected to the establishment, to just writing the university's name within a box, all in some awful modern stencilled typeface.

Though that might win gammons top trump as it's a waste of taxpayer money and something to do with unwashed tax-dodging, job-shirking student layabouts.

Which university, if you don't mind me asking?

“Haven’t heard the word ‘stagflation’ for decades,” admits Nick Robinson this morning. He would have encountered the concept in 2016 from ‘Project Fear’ experts if he’d done some homework for the EURef.

Bath Spa University.

Not much to say about it other than "nice lake, mind."

This morning on the BBC news they claimed that the government had issued 5000 visas for truck drivers. Have these visas actually been issued or is it simply the case that these visas are available should drivers from the EU wished to apply for them? The BBC really should distinguish between factual statements issued by government departments and stories pushed by the Tory party spin machine.

I'm not convinced that Laura has ever made a distinction.

Hasn't she been quiet since Weirdo Cummings disappearance.

I believe it's the latter, of which only 27 have been taken up (at time of writing).

Johnson's figure of 127 hasn't included the 100 army drivers drafted in to help the logistics crisis, I wonder if the beeb will mention that :roll:

As the army are British and therefore don't need visas, I don't understand why you think the BBC would mention them? The Tories have now clarified that Johnson was lying again.

British army relies heavily on ‘mainlining cheap foreign labour.’ A solider from Fiji, Nepal or Barbados probably does need a visa to drive HGV.

Really? You think the army has HGV drivers, stationed in the UK, who are not qualified to drive in the UK? I wonder why they would do that?
