I suppose Daisy must be a relative Lib Dem big hitter. Who's bigger? Sarah Olney, maybe, having won her by-election and won again in 2019?
The Ed Davey- Tim Farron team must be doing a lot of heavy lifting, but in any case the public don't know many politicians. Philip Hammond wouldn't have been recognised when he was Chancellor.

Jesus. Her "honest answer" is she knows less than her (presumably not that old) children. "Without jargon". Surprised she didn't think she needed to draw a picture for the audience. Mentions grants for some household improvements "but I can't afford a heat pump, I might get my roof insulated better".

The Liberals would often have some schtick to stand out: being very fat, talking like a pirate, campaigning with a bloodhound or hiring a hitman.

Three of those I've worked out, but... pirate?

Not in the bag yet, but I think it’s looking like they might have done it. All the news is going the right way.

Also, rumour is Labour are hammering the Tories in Wakefield. Johnson could be in for a horrible day tomorrow.
Lovely.

Rumours the Durham outcome is out tomorrow, if it doesn’t show anything I expect Labour to enter full on campaign mode.
If it does it really is as dodgy as fuck, I’d like to believe it wasn’t if it did go against but the timing is suspect.

Lib Dems very confident. "Looks like a clear win".

So...
Wakefield: Labour gain, majority 4925. 12.69% swing. Turnout 39.46%.
Tiverton and Honiton; LD gain, majority 6,144, swing 29.93%. Turnout 52.16%.

Probably proof if proof was needed these focus groups don’t exist that have a pretence that Boris is popular.
Look at that Tiverton result that’s not normal. Viscount Palmerston had recently been a LD when they last had a LD MP in Tiverton (Hugh Fortescue in 1881, the dad of the more famous one).

And there’s more: Tories lost a by-election to Labour in Essex.

The winning coalition of social conservatives who want lefty economics? Matt always believed no one had thought up this idea before. They have and knew what the results would be.

Astonishing levels of Galaxy-Brain thinking from Lord Frost this morning. I bet he and Dan Hodges would get on like a house on fire.

At the risk of being condemned, let's be realistic here: these are protest votes. T&H will return to the Tories at the next GE, Wakefield might not.
And Johnson still has a huge majority.

Johnson didn't particularly promise "social conservatism" in the election anyway. For very good reason, given his own lifestyle.

Didn’t mean Mary Whitehouse ‘social conservatism’ but in the Matt Goodwin sense: ‘Should have listened to Enoch.’
