OH SH*T! I've been banned from the forum!!!
This is ‘banned from the forum’ in the same sense that people like Jim “Chalky Nick Nick” Davidson claim you can’t say anything these days without being thrown in jail and forced to convert to Islam immediately after saying the thing they say you can’t say with zero consequences.

A consultation which had put 2,700 jobs at risk at British Steel will not continue, it has been confirmed.

The company, which is now under government control, has withdrawn the paperwork submitted to the Department of Business and Trade by its previous management in March.

Officials said the move was part of ongoing efforts to stabilise production and followed the confirmation of a secure supply of raw materials for the site.

Lisa Coulson, interim chief commercial officer, said it had been a "difficult and worrying time for staff and their families" and the redundancy consultation would close "without action".

Ms Coulson thanked trade unions for their "professionalism and support" and she praised the workforce for its "extraordinary dedication".

She added: "It is your hard work and passion that means steelmaking in Scunthorpe has a bright future.

"Quite simply, British Steel workers are the finest in the world."
What's being announced? No compulsory job losses at all? If so, that's foolish. We've at least got the option of being a large scale commercial steel producer now, but there's a long way to go. What we don't want is an expensive Keynesian job creation scheme, even in North Lincolnshire. I think it's going to be pretty hard to argue for no job losses here if the final plan for eg Grangemouth ends up with significant overall losses, as indeed happened at Port Talbot.

This stuff continues to irritate me. Negotiations are happening, there's a summit next month. It seems that even some of the REJOIN NOW types have picked up on that, so the new meme is "should be concentrating on Europe, not Trump", whatever that means. Ask the car manufacturers about the US tariffs. The Select Committee yesterday heard some extremely grim projections if the tariffs stay.

My fault.

Stablishing production isn't the same as an expensive job creation scheme.

A serious question for the Sweeper : What makes you so anti-Labour? Have you always been this way? Politically, we can see your antipathy towards Labour, but what do you actually believe in or support? You a Tory? A Farageist? A BNP equivalent of the Japanese sniper in the jungle? Do tell.
You know what? Despite my misgivings over Farage, I probably give them my vote at the next general. They can't do any worse then this lot?

For the record my hate for Labour is because the way they have run our local council. My MP happens to be David Lammy, the foreign secretary, who happens to be invisible in our area, which is among the most deprived in the whole of the country. Just recently the Greens won a previously safe Labour council seat at a recent by-election.

My first vote was for the old SDP, then when they merged to form the Lib Dems, and I voted for them and since became a member. But now I feel a little disilusioned with them too. I would do anything to vote Starmer and his bastards out!!

As for the "Full of Shit Nev" jibe, I can take it, because one can't reach people who hate you on a computer screen.

Seems sensible. Don't know how much tax is potentially raised by this.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... ue-imports
Rachel Reeves looks at ending zero tax regime for low-value imports
Chancellor reviewing rule that lets foreign retailers such as Amazon and Shein pay no duty on items costing under £135
I suppose all these things add up, but the promise on not raising so many of the big taxes might as well be junked now.

Well, thanks for responding. So, you hate Labour because you think they don’t run your local council so well, and you’re not happy with David Lammy as your MP. Seems a little extreme to hate an entire party for such, well, mundane reasons. Did you hate the Tories for spending 14 years in government turning everything to shite ? Because to me that seems far worse than an underperforming local authority and an allegedly absent MP.

Ah. I see. You’re a nascent Farageist. Well, if you think David Lammy is an absentee MP, try asking the voters of Clacton about their guy. And let me assure you, Farage and his jokers not only can do very, very much worse than any Labour government (or any other government for that matter), they definitely would, given the chance. Seriously Nev, that you’re even contemplating voting for Farage tells me a great deal about you, and your political intelligence/gullibility. Please, try having a serious think about stuff.

Oh, they won't... it's everywhere else you need to be concerned about - especially Lincolnshire. I suspect they will do very well here.
Yes, they probably will.

Very interesting reading. ian Dunt made this interesting point on his substack.

There is simply no point in saying, as so many Remainers are seemingly obsessed with doing, that only the single market and the customs union will do. That is a dead end. They were never on offer, they were never promised and they are not going to happen. It’s a fight for another day.
Many rejoin now types won't listen to that piece of advice.
