They'll spin it as a win, or a "we tried but what can you do?" outcome.

Thing about American people is that when it comes to international matters, they don't really care as long as they are winning. I'm reminded of an article about a recent Olympics where American networks only showed footage of their people winning gold. Anything else, not bothered. Paraguay vs Albania in the basketball? Whatevs. Wake us up for the final.

So, as long as there's a way to spin it as a good outcome for America, they really won't care what happens.
