In two months time it will be the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe.

I've yet to hear about any planned commemorations/celebrations. It should be a unifying occasion to remember the fallen and celebrate the defeat of Nazism, the liberation of Europe and the subsequent peace and freedom.

But of "The Big Three", one is led by a man who sees Europe as his rival and describes the war dead as "losers" and another is led by a man who sees Europe as his natural enemy and is currently engaged in an illegal imperialist war against a European country.

This year is special as it's likely to be the last 'round number' with any veterans in attendance.
I find that quite sad.

I wonder how it will go.

A council that's not splashing out on a VE day parade is near a place where some other woke stuff happened.

Inside the 'wokest county in Britain' where VE Day parade was declared 'too elitist', Christian prayers were banned and worker won payout for 'low' desk

The area (Hertfordshire) has seen parents being arrested over a fiesty school WhatsApp chat, a council banning Christian prayers to be 'more inclusive', and compensation being awarded to an estate agent who resigned after moaning about his 'low status' desk at work.

And now a council has sparked outrage after refusing to stage a VE Day parade to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe amid fears hosting such an event would be 'elitist'.

The story changes halfway down, penny pinchers rather than anti-elitists to blame.
Behind the scenes, a civil war seemingly erupted, with councillors blaming penny-pinching civil servants at the Liberal Democrat-run authority for scrubbing the event due to a lack of funds.

They'll be a parade in a larger near by town. Mail finds some top grade Blimpish complainers
army veteran and former spymaster, Colonel Philip Ingram last night ripped into the area, calling it the nation's most 'anti-British county'.

Lana Templeton, 81, whose father served in the Royal Air Force, said: 'The council has no right to do that. It's absolute nonsense. I lost my father in the war. He was in the Royal Air Force.

She said: 'I grew up in a British colony in Africa – Southern Rhodesia.

Was it “look I’m a foreign”, probably not the best example.
Rhodesia has become a shibboleth for white supremacists who wish to restore bongo-bongo land to jolly old white rule.

Liberal white Saffers have word for them "Rhodies".

I've encountered a security guard in the past who was most emphatic that he was Rhodesian.
