Did parliament need to be recalled for this, and not the Ukraine and Gaza wars? Ministers could have calmed down and looked at the options on the table. Then they could have made a better decision than what they are considering now.

Nationalising something as the only way to stop it closing down is the same as nationalising something which isn’t closing down, apparently.

I would think this will count as investment spending, so no need to do any cuts to pay for it. It’s exempt from the rules.

Mercifully the Guardian spares us Clive Lewis. They're meeting the EU next month. I believe it's been in the papers. The Guardian drops in talks with India and China, doubtless the inference we're to take is that it's bad. The EU has been working on an FTA for 3 years with India, so it's unlikely that the EU doing one is going to be a major problem in terms of UK-EU deals. I'm sure the EU is talking to China too. The name of the game is everybody talks to everyone else who isn't America, Russia or Iran.

Stella Creasey is surprisingly outspoken in the article. Is she worried about Greens-Independents taking her out next time?
