Great BBC take on here. Belatedly gets to somebody who is involved in the project, but only after a headline about "devastation", and a bit about a bloke whose farm was part purchased for it. None of these people use roads or other sorts of energy, I'm sure. One of them strongly supports renewables instead. Shame people living near big solar and wind farms aren't so positive.

The Guardian really doesn't like Labour or Starmer, does it?

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... de-tariffs
Starmer admits he has not spoken to Trump since he brought in trade tariffs
"Admits". The tone of its readers generally is "cocksucker Starmer tells Europe to fuck off". So now Starmer is guilty for not talking to Trump more?

A sad and depressing realisation is that labour will never get any credit for anything from the guardian.

What we do know is unlike the EU and China (or even Canada due to the nature of its exports to the US) is that the UK is not in a position to play Billy Big Bollocks with Washington. Playing dead while quietly becoming a player in a restructured international economic order is the best the UK can do.

Admits - says.
Discloses - says.
Reveals - says.
Announces - says.

Much of journalism is thumbing through the thesaurus, trying to make stuff sound interesting.

Yeah, right. Yet more cuts to spending on public services in order to save a steel works that has outlived its usefulness.

Why Scunthorpe and not Port Talbot?

Why steel but not water?

What about electric and gas?

The media have been sensing panic in the government for a long time, because so far, almost everything they have done in office so far has turned to complete sh*t. Did parliament need to be recalled for this, and not the Ukraine and Gaza wars? Ministers could have calmed down and looked at the options on the table. Then they could have made a better decision than what they are considering now.

They would need fast track legislation to nationalise steel. That tends to involve Parliament sitting. Your objection is what? That it should have cancelled all other business and done it yesterday?

What’s the equivalent situation with Ukraine? Where was there a need to pass legislation which didn’t happen because Starmer was too lazy?

Renationalising steel is bad according to Trigger.

Labour MPs urge ministers to focus on rebuilding trading relationship with EU

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... ip-with-eu

Mercifully the Guardian spares us Clive Lewis. They're meeting the EU next month. I believe it's been in the papers. The Guardian drops in talks with India and China, doubtless the inference we're to take is that it's bad. The EU has been working on an FTA for 3 years with India, so it's unlikely that the EU doing one is going to be a major problem in terms of UK-EU deals. I'm sure the EU is talking to China too. The name of the game is everybody talks to everyone else who isn't America, Russia or Iran.

Stella Creasey is surprisingly outspoken in the article. Is she worried about Greens-Independents taking her out next time?
