If you’ve been reading the Indy lately you’ll notice it’s morphing into a piss poor version of the Mail for readers with longer arms (analogue era joke there kids).

David Maddox gets his first run-out in the Commons’ press gallery in his new role as political editor of the Independent, having made a shocking switch from the Daily Express. But readers of the left-leaning title should brace themselves for a pig’s ear or two from a Westminster veteran who has become regarded as one of Fleet Street’s most strident Brexiteers.

Early Maddox scoops on the matter included “Brexit will save the NHS” (Nov 2016), “EU exit to save billions” (Dec 2016) and “Brexit will bring golden era for City” (Mar 2017). And despite all evidence to the contrary, he’s still at it.

“Coming soon! Brexit’s big wins for Britain” was his front-page splash in February 2023, “EU admits Brexit humiliation” followed last November and this year’s gems have included “Remoaner doom-mongers wrong again” and the not-at-all-deranged-sounding “World class Brexit Britain smashes EU to claim new global status in Rejoiner hammer blow”. https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/raving ... rexiteers/

Inews is not the Independent. It’s a quite separate entity.

The i is similar to the Mail because it is owned by the same organisation. Hardly a coincidence. It is now separate from the Independent.
Wiki wrote: The i Paper, known as i until December 2024, is a British national newspaper published in London by Daily Mail and General Trust and distributed across the United Kingdom. It is aimed at "readers and lapsed readers" of all ages and commuters with limited time, and was originally launched in 2010 as a sister paper to The Independent.

The i was later acquired by Johnston Press in 2016 after The Independent shifted to a digital-only model. The i came under the control of JPIMedia a day after Johnston Press filed for administration on 16 November 2018. The paper and its website were bought by the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) on 29 November 2019, for £49.6 million. On 6 December 2019 the Competition and Markets Authority served an initial enforcement order on DMGT and DMG Media Limited, requiring the paper to be run separately pending investigation...

...The i was found in a 2018 poll to be the second-most trusted news brand in the UK after The Guardian. In March 2019, the i overtook The Guardian to become the most trusted digital news brand on-line, and third in print. The two then tied as most trusted national newsbrand for their paper editions in 2020; the i was third on-line.

Not much sympathy on that thread to put it mildly. I'd assume interest rate hikes are the worst enemy of a plonker who has BTL mortgages on five properties.
Makes yer 'art bleed.
The 40-year-old has a portfolio approaching 300 properties in the Liverpool area and he is “constantly looking to expand”.

While he said there is “absolutely no chance” he will be moving his business outside of the UK, he said: “Increasing costs and regulations are squeezing landlords’ profit margins.
