Fargle has become part the establishment, as evidenced by him thinking Yaxley-Lennon might be a bit problematic.

Lowe's criticized Farage for not giving him and the others proper big boy party shadow briefs and policies. It's a longstanding complaint among the second rank of Kipper politicians who get fed up with having just to repeat every brainfart policy Fargle comes out with. Then again, Farage would be within his rights to look at this lot and not trust them with anything at all. I remember Godfrey Bloom suggesting they just lift policies from rightwing think tanks, which made some sense in the context of UKIP and still does. There'd at least be some briefing notes, lines to take etc that would get them through most interviews.

Just been listening on Times Radio to an absolute weapons grade arsehole called Charlie Mullins. He made a load of money when he sold his plumbing business , has donated thousands to the Tories, and is now a keen supporter of Farage’s outfit. When Labour was elected, Mullins left the UK to live in Dubai & Spain.

The subject under discussion was the vexed question of why millionaires and billionaires are allegedly leaving London in droves.

If Mullins is any sort of example, it’s because they’re thick, greedy, vindictive wankers whom if brains were dynamite, wouldn't enough to blow their hats off.

Because plumbers don't leave firms like his to go self-employed based out of their home choosing their own hours.
Dear god, surely this working from home argument has run its course now. Some people can work from home, others can't. If you don't like that, tough fucking shit, get another job where you can work from home and stop fucking whining.

Mullins has also been on LBC. I've not seen him since he was peddling Covid conspiracy theories. He hasn't changed - can't answer questions, can't cite evidence to back up his claims, all he has is insults to the interviewer.

Way, way before Covid - something like fifteen years or so - my brother worked from home on account of the bank he worked for shutting his office. So instead they paid for him to have a room at his home made into an office and he first had ISDN, then broadband and a second phone line installed.

Nothing. New. Here.

I guess ridiculous characters like Mullins and Elon Musk’s dad keep being interviewed because they are car crash material. Not good enough when even American TV invites academic heavyweights on programmes presented by comedians.

Indeed, he looks like many a Rod Stewart tribute act you see advertised on many a roadside poster outside many a provincial town.

The comedian talk shows are very much at the higher end of American tv, but it's funny we don't have something like them here.

As for regular US tv, they wouldn't have a goon like Mullins on but they do have (and treat with kid gloves) any number of Republican liars.

Every time it's been tried (according to John O'Farrell, the most dreaded words any comedy writer fears hearing are "Why don't we have a new version of TW3/a British Daily Show?"), it's been crap.

Partly because British television loves to compartmentalise. Comedy and satire have to be clearly labelled (think of the BBC's big and loud 'comedy music', as heard on Would I Lie to You/HIGNFY), so as we saw with 10 O'clock Live, guests tended to treat it as a jolly. Also, you can't be partisan in the way John Stewart is. But mainly, TV executives don't trust viewers with that much intelligence.

Also, US shows tend to have big production and writing teams. British ones are still likely small teams who would be quickly burned out doing nightly shows.
