I saw somebody on Twitter earlier claiming that Britain didn't need to worry about importing food from America because RFK was going to improve food standards in America. This is utter nonsense. My wife has been to America on a number of occasions to inspect food factories and each time she has been she has met with obstruction, lies and legal threats. Food producers are actively oppose any form of regulation or inspection and RFK will not change that anytime soon especially if government officials are being sacked right, left and centre.

Bit of chlorine washed chicken never harmed anyone eh? Not for the first time, Ferrari is entirely missing the point. Chicken washed with chlorine might be safe to eat, but the fact that it has had to be washed in chlorine to kill off the campylobacter bacillus and other dangerous bacteria is indicative of chickens raised under very poor welfare standards, and probably of inferior quality.

Colonel Sanders has a lot to answer for.

Indeed; have a read of https://www.soilassociation.org/causes- ... d-chicken/

This covers the whole argument, and the counter-claim of "but the EU washes salad leaves in chlorine..."

See also: https://www.soilassociation.org/causes- ... rade-deal/

Pretty alarming reading.

Perhaps Starmer sees the UK as a 21st century non aligned state like Yugoslavia playing off the giant blocs against each other. That's not what a trade deal with Trump will bring but Belarus vassal status increasing its dependence on a power the RoW wants to escape from.
And that's the only reason Trump would want a deal. If it looked like UK imports to the US were about to increase so would tariff rates.

The clowns have been all over the Sunday politics shows (seem to be much bigger thing in America than it's ever been here, even when we had On The Record and Weekend World). The gist seems to be "markets are short term and we've had everyone on the phone wanting to do deals". Barring unexpected capitulations from China, the EU, Japan etc, seems like the markets won't be shooting back up again.

I’ve been compiling a list of unflattering nicknames for The Donald. I will admit that one or two of these are my own desperate contrivances. Can the team think of any. more ? Hint : orange hued fruit/vegetables coupled with names of dictators seem to work well.

The Mango Mussolini.
The Tangerine Twat.
The Combover Caligula.
The Kumquat Cunt.
The Nectarine Nero.
The Orange Orang Utan
The Persimmon Prick.
The Cheeto Chancer.
The Clementine Cunt.
The Satsuma Stalin.
The Haribo Hitler.

Also unclear what these 'currency manipulation' crimes are. I think Trump's accusing countries enjoying trade surpluses with the US but no tariffs of artificially lowering their currencies against the Dollar. It's likely the greenback will tumble so that'll solve that problem. And as oil is priced in Dollars, there's a consolation prize there for non US consumers.

Very simply, it's an incredibly stupid thing to do.
The basic concept of the 3-2-1 backup strategy is that three copies of the data are made to be protected, the copies are stored on two different types of storage media and one copy of the data is sent offsite.
The tapes - which have been doing a great job for 70 years - are the offsite, last resort, air shielded backup data sets. Not hackable, not alterable, just there in case everything else goes to shit. And they've decided that because they're a bit old and dusty, better transfer all the data onto Dropbox or whatever. Because ha ha, look at that silly thing, isn't it old?

This is like burning down the British Library because we've got Wikipedia now. Or erasing the BBC archives because we've now got Netflix.
