Trump isn't the first POTUS to moan about low European defence spending but not too much. You get to call the tune and the US needed European bases post Cold War for their proximity to the Middle East.
And most importantly the Europeans buy US kit off the shelf. The Europeans will want more back for their constituents to justify higher defence spending and this is one aspect of industrial policy they can control.
People of a certain vintage might ask if Westland helicopters and it's European partners are still around as they're luck might be about to change. And tough shit for Sikorsky and Thatcher's Atlantacist proteges.

It’s because they’d like us to be Little America and always have - plenty of guns, militarised police, no worker’s rights, society with an overbearing right-wing Christian-slanted mindset, minimal oversight, minimal taxation, a ‘class’ system based entirely around personal wealth (with the less well off effectively forced to tug the forelock of the rich, as otherwise their jobs are forfeit) and practically zero public services (inc., of course, healthcare). And by remarkable coincidence it’s this sort of system where they would have the most power, influence, quality of life and prospects. Funny that.

The right have invested everything in Brexit and Churchillian fantasies of Anglo Saxon hegemony and now they see it coming apart at the seams. They're in danger of either looking like Jeremy Corbyn or Lord Haw Haw if the US divest from Europe and Putin steps up his war machine. Anyone who threw their lot in with Trump was an ignorant twat from the word go. I take it they won't be fear mongering about a European army anytime soon.

To the surprise of nobody

President Donald Trump has criticised Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying he was “disappointed” that the Ukrainian leader complained about being left out of talks between the US and Russia over ending the Ukraine war.

Trump also seemed to blame Kyiv for Moscow’s invasion – even as he said he was more confident of a deal to end the war after US-Russia talks – claiming Ukraine could have “made a deal” to avert war.

“I’m very disappointed, I hear that they’re upset about not having a seat [at the talks],” Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida when asked about the Ukrainian reaction. The US president said a “half baked” negotiator could have secured a settlement years ago “without the loss of much land”.

“Today I heard, ‘oh, well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years ... You should have never started it. You could have made a deal,” he said...

It's a perfect example of USA first and the starkest possible introduction of the new world order. Trump and his minions simply don't care about Europe and what we think about anything. The ONLY way to hit back is to boycott American goods and stop spending tourist Dollars there. Even then, these people are such fanatics, I don't think it will make much difference. After all, most of them think they're on a mission from god.

A few quotes from Nicholas Pileggi, author of "Wiseguy" (the book that was adapted into Goodfellas) are rather telling:
Of course problems can arise when the guys sticking you up are associated with wiseguys too. Then there has to be a sit-down between your wiseguys and their wiseguys. What usually happens then is that the wiseguys divide whatever you stole for their own pockets and send you and the guy who robbed you home with nothing. And if you complain, you’re dead.”
They were not the smartest kids in the neighborhood. They were not born the richest. They weren’t even the toughest. In fact, they lacked almost all the necessary talents that might have helped them satisfy the appetites of their dreams, except one—their talent for violence.
The Wiseguy mentality in a nutshell: Want. Take.

Trump's statement on Ukraine. This is shameful, even by his standards:
Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is “MISSING.” He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left. In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only “TRUMP,” and the Trump Administration, can do. Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues…..

Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle. The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe’s money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back. Why didn’t Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us — We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation.

Lying cunt lies like a cunt. Nobody should be surprised, save for the fact that he has said it all for public consumption and so soon.

He is not on Ukraine's side, he is not on Europe's side. He is firmly in the Putin camp which now needs to be exposed. The Mueller Report needs to be leaked and Starmer should publish the Russia Report, if not just so that everyone knows the long and short of the beast we are all facing.

Moreover, that would help Starmer push through ratcheted up defence spending, while chopping the legs off Putin's UK-based useful idiots.

That's what the custard cunt* is claiming. Outrageous thing to shock Europe into sorting it all out.

If that were so, why are his people in Saudi? Why not just pull the arms and funding?

*Johnson, in case you were wondering.

The bit about Saudi intrigued me as well; the tin foil version of me thinks there was a side conversation about all the potential displaced people from Gaza.

I reckon that would a tough sell, getting the House of Saud to welcoming what's left of 2m Sunni folk from Gaza.

What's wrong with Clacton, anyway?
