I might have missed it, and I know that Trump disgracefully referred to the 1500-odd 6 January violent criminal rioters to whom he issued free pardons and let out of gaol as "hostages", but was he ever asked to, or did he ever explain his "rationale" for doing so ? Because as far as I can see, there just isn't one.

That's the joy of a 200+ year-old constitution written for a set of circumstances so very far removed from the present day - you don't need to give a reason. You are assumed to be a gentleman who would always act with honour.

Don't think the President is expected to justify pardons. But the Justice Department is supposed to explain why it's dropping investigations. I think it's just dropped a couple of them (coincidientally v Trump allies) and not explained it. I think even Jeff Sessions would have felt he needed to explain and stuck something out after a month. But this is by degrees more corrupt.

My reading of his "pardons" is based on how every charge against him is part of a witch-hunt lead by a corrupt legal system, he is just using them to reflect his own narrative.

"government"?
The people at fault were either the pilot of a military helicopter, the pilot of a civilian airliner or air traffic control - or some combination thereof. Why is Vance talking about government?

Reworded for clarity.

I have no doubt at all that any DEI recruitment initiatives deployed by the Federal Aviation Authority will have had no bearing whatsoever on the calibre, abilities or competencies of any of the air traffic controllers recruited, trained, or employed by that authority. There is not even a scintilla of a hint that human error on the part of an air traffic controller can be proven to have been a contributory factor in causing this accident.

And yet, Trump is so determined to leverage whatever he can in his obsession with abolishing alleged wokery, he is prepared to ride roughshod over the feelings of dozens of suddenly bereaved and grieving families.

Just when you think that he cannot possibly be more of a massive cunt, he pulls a fucking stunt like this.

But then, the good citizens of the USA knew exactly what they were voting for. Too much to hope that there just might be some buyer’s remorse abroad in that accursed nation, I suppose.

Staffing was ‘not normal’ at airport tower, according to a preliminary F.A.A. report.

The controller who was handling helicopters in the airport’s vicinity Wednesday night was also instructing planes that were landing and departing from its runways. Those jobs typically are assigned to two controllers, rather than one.
