There’s a grim synchronicity in this appointment being announced not long after Monbiot’s article on the mistreatment of ME patients was published.

It’s pretty banal to observe that how people are online doesn’t necessarily match how they behave out in the world, so it’s a genuine shock to see a video of him shouting the same weird slurs he employs on Twitter at an actual person stood next to him.

A while back, when was going on about trans women using the women’s bogs and how if he ever saw that happening he’d certainly know what to do about it, someone on another forum predicted that he was going to end up getting his collar felt for assault. It struck me as alarmist at the time but I’m beginning to wonder.

Imagine a situation where political parties could not ensure their candidates shared their values.
