Actually, that's something not entirely unrelated to this matter, but something I get very angry about.
Every time there's a case of some kid born with an absolutely horrifying disease or condition or disability and not a sod's chance of having any sort of "life" beyond the insides of an incubator in Alder Hey, let's call them Little Jimmy, and their parents and family are utterly distraught, this is one of the cruellest things that could happen and if there ever was a loving God how could they allow this, and they wrack themselves with guilt over what they might have done to deserve this, as if anyone ever deserves something so random and fucked up, and any sign, no matter how faint, of life or a twitch of an eye is seized upon as hope and the slimmest of chances despite all the evidence and odds, but can you blame them, and then the fucking vultures descend and some of them are the people in the Jimmy's Army t-shirts praying and protesting outside the hospital and they're the least awful of them because they're motivated by sympathy, however some of them see it as an opportunity to attack a symbol of authority, blinded by their own righteousness; but at least they're not the fucking "Christian Concern" lawyers and lobbyists who elbow their way in with false promises and digs at science and reason, and the surgeons in Tashkent or wherever who have a revolutionary new bottle of snake oil or ten speed wanking machine they want to hawk and then the Pope gets involved or fucking Trump saying this proves socialised medicine is evil, and in the middle of it all are two parents who are utterly overwhelmed and some poor kid who has no idea what's going on.

"My eyes have seen the glory, I'm a born again Atheist!"
