Fixed this for Jez
Don't concede ground to those who sow division and fear.*

*unless it’s that nice Mr Putin. Then it’s OK and you should definitely concede any literal ground he asks for, because you probably provoked him.

What a dreadful Sunday it has been, chez le BBC. Kuenssberg could barely contain her grief and James Coomarasamy has just spent a full hour explaining to us that Le Pen's defeat is merely a speed-bump in the road to inevitable electoral glory.

There people are not journalists.

But stating the bleedin' obvious is, even if he is crap at putting words into deeds.

Oh absolutely. If it bleeds, it leads. And one thing you can guarantee with the fash is claret being spilled. All fun and games until someone loses an eye...

Wow, never heard of that. Will check it out.

It was a while ago when I was there and an England colleague asked me what I made of the area. I said it felt quite like England. He was interested by my reply, because he knew I came from Chaltenham and studied in Oxford, which were well off places, whereas by French standards the Pas de Calais wasn't well off (though St Omer was a nicer bit of it).

The FN winning in my old area feels to me like Reform having won in Tewkesbury (Lib Dem gain).

News is coming in that the spire of Rouen cathedral is on fire.

Like Notre Dame it was undergoing renovation. At the moment the fire seems to be confined to part of the spire, but if it falls that could be catastrophic.

I like Rouen, I'm sad.
